Hello,

I am flying to LAX using my QFF points and would like to know the SC's I will rack up through the flights
Out is SYD-LAX economy
In is LAX-NAR in U with AA then NAR-CNS in Starclass on JQ
By my reckoning I will get 60 for the first leg
Do I get 200 for the LAX-NAR run plus 160 for the NAR-CNS run or do they bundle them on an overall length basis?
I see also I am entitled to a 25% bonus on these flights.
Thanks

Did you book it as a classic award? If so you'll get zero sc's and points

Thanks for the reply nlagalle
I called Qantas to book it
How do you know if it is a classic booking?

Status credits are accrued by sector - so you look at each flight individually and get the points for that sector.

But if you did the whole thing as a points redemption (Classic Awards), then you will get no status credits at all. Status credits - and FF points - accrue only on PAID tickets (which includes both normal commercially-purchased tickets and Any Seat Awards; the reason these awards get status credits is that you use points plus cash to pay for these).

A classic booking will show as fare class 'X' when you check your booking online, either through the QANTAS site or www.checkmytrip.com. ;)
Note that so may Economy Any-Seat-awards.

I suspect that since SNW1406 called to book, if the booking class is X then they are on a classic award booking and as such will not earn any QFF points/SC's for the trip

[EDIT]
However, as posted by medhead, the OP mentions U class and Starclass.

Eve, so, The above still applies in respect to Classic/AnySeat awards. U class (rather than X) can indicate either.
[/EDIT]

Just on the booking class it will only be X for an economy booking. The OP already mentioned that it was U class (I assume), which may be a classic award in business (?)

Interesting explanation.

Not meaning to nit pick but a Classic award is also points + cash and a lot of times the only difference between a Classic award and an Any Seat Award is a few extra dollars for the cash component of the Any Seat Award.

It would be much simpler if all awards received SCs and FF points not just Any Seat Awards.

Is there always a cash element with an ASA? I thought it was possible to book an ASA with points alone - even covering taxes etc.

I've not done it because I have always used the minimum points and topped up with cash.

It is possible to pay only with points on an ASA. So no there is doesn't have to be a cash element.

Serfty I just realised that the U fare is on AA. Is that the same as U on QF? i.e. A business award

If the U fare is on AA then:

  1. U class used be AA for Award Tickets and industry fares,
  2. [-]JASA's can only be purchased for QF flights and[/-]
  3. The OP [probably has] [-]have[/-] a "classic' award, so no points/SC's.

JASA's can only be purchased for QF flights....

Are you sure?

Perhaps I don't quite understand your statement but I can purchase a business class Any Seat Award for SYD-DFW-LGA on QF7 and AA738 for 1,093,229 QFF points!

It is supposed to be only for QF or JQ flights.

I had believed it was for QF flight numbers only ... I guess things can change.

There have been other airlines (although the QFF point cost is ridiculous) included from the day Any Seat Awards were implemented. I am sure it was mentioned in one of the first threads on Any Seat Awards.

That may be the case, but the rules do (or did) say that it was for QF and JQ flights.
Given that they will just be the commercial fares, a conversion from dollars to points is never going to have a good outcome.

Point taken.

As we have it most QF Any Seat Awards are good value but anything including another carrier such as UA, AC, SQ etc requires ridiculous points cost.
