A couple of questions on this topic:

I'm currently PS and about to slip to NB status.
Next year I'm hoping some decent YUPP runs will launch me through to WP.

If I reach that level and then travel far less the following status year will I revert back to Gold only or all the way back to the status according to the flights for that year?

Also, in the past, I've received a complimentary maintenance of status when I haven't obtained the necessary SCs. I know this is a fairly regular thing, or has been in the past. How close to the necessary points does one have to get to be offered this complimentary maintenance? 90%, 80% ?
For example, if WP and obtain 1000 SC in the new year but not 1200 for automatic maintenance are you likely to be offered the complimentary?
Similarly, if WP and only obtain 500 SC are you likely to be put back to SG or to PS?

Point me to the right thread if necessary.

You will drop just to Gold via the QFF soft landing.

Status comps are now meant to be a one off thing in that you should only get one comp. The basis for that is highly variable with some people missing by 100SCs and not being comped but with others have been comped in full from 0 SCs.

You will be given a "soft landing" back to Gold if you don't earn enough status credits to retain Platinum, no matter how many status credits you earn (it could be zero, for example).

My understanding is that there is no mathematical formula used by Qantas to determine who they will comp status retention to. Some have posted they've earned less than 100 SC and been comped Platinum status. Others have fallen just short and not been comped. Basically if you want to retain the status the only way to guarantee it is to do the miles.

I believe there is a formula used, but its not based on just the year of travel but your perceived value to Qantas over a few years, say the average SC balance over the last 5 years!

Note that I believe you will still need the 4 eligible flights to qualify for the SG 'soft landing'.
