As a member who has never made use of the advantages offered by this process, what opportunities might you suggest for someone with:

Hyatt Platinum
Marriott Silver
HH Blue
PC Platinum
SPG Preferred
Carlson Club ( regular )

Do you intend to stay at any of the lesser-statused hotels?

Being matched is pretty useless (other than lounge access and all that) if you can’t retain it afterwards.

Unless of course you are about to go on a long holiday and want the advantage of status for room upgrades etc but want or need the variety if different chains. then a quick status match would be great value.

I personally like Hilton Hhonors for the free room upgrades.. Plus I like Hilton hotels too :)

I agree with the sentiment. I wonder,do you happen to know whether HH gold gets you a room upgrade at the Waldorf properties?

It depends on the property and the W-A bennies are clearly advertised on the HHonors web site.

From the Hilton HHonors webpage: "One category room upgrade* (excludes suites, Napua Tower at Grand Wailea and Imperial Floor at Rome Cavalieri)"

Great pointer, thanks due.

I followed this up and it looks like the benefit is
One category room upgrade* (excludes suites,

- maybe it's me but I am not sure that a one room upgrade excluding suites is big deal. Could it be just a slightly better view maybe?

Quite frankly W-A hotels are the stingiest at upgrades of all Hilton properties.
At The WA NYC our first stay was in a broom closet. Our second stay got us a room with a window. So for our third stay actually booked a suite-poor condition with peeling wallpaper,a lot of things missing such as washers and a room service menu, safe out of order. All these stays were as a diamond.
The upgrades at the Cavalieri in Rome were much better when it was a Hilton than now as a WA.As a diamond we got a larger Rome view room on the Imperial floor with Imperial lounge access-and this was the usual upgrade for diamonds then.

Now as has been already asked why do you want to status match? Not worth it unless you are going to stay a few times or aim to get to top status.I status matched to SPG from Hhonors after our last WA NYC stay.I have stayed with SPG ever since as in my case i have got a lot better service at SPG than Hhonors.
Now mrsdrron has taken up the VA status match to Hhonors diamond because at the end of the year we are going to be in Barbados-has a Hilton but no SPG presence.Similarly next year it will be Reykjavik with the same situation so there is some payback for the status match.
