Need to do a status run to hit Platinum. Need 190 status credits.

Any advice on a status run departing/returning Sydney would be much appreciated as this is my first status run.

What's your budget and timeframe? Have you checked out the SC run thread?

P.S. Welcome to AFF. :)

Thanks!

I did briefly but couldnt see any exiting Sydney so was wondering if there was a good route to take starting and finishing in Sydney. I have about 140k points I can burn and am willing to spend a few hundred dollars.

Sounds like the 'Hobart Express' run is in order.

Long transit in SYD so you could probably go home and have lunch :)

Short turnaround in HBA but twenty minutes to go to the gate for the start of boarding should be enough... right? (Might even be the same aircraft?)

Position yourself in CBR with the $139 red e-deal to get the last 10 SCs and add the cost of overnighting in CBR and getting back to SYD the next day.

My suggestion is Sydney - Brisbane - Townsville return. Earns 200 status credits in J. I did the run last weekend for $272 plus 48000 points for Any Seat Award. A quick check shows the same fare available for travel on Friday 3 August returning Sat 4 August. Presumably other dates are available.

My trip, with the help of double status credits, means that I reached platinum for the first time yesterday.

Until I realised that 190 was the target, I was going to say that, depending on where you live in Sydney, you could always drive to CBR and thereby avoid the cost of the SYD-CBR-SYD flights and the overnight accommodation in CBR (but incur the additional cost of driving to CBR and parking there).

I thought about mentioning driving to/from CBR but I personally would try to avoid after an 8 pm arrival there following a full day of flying.

I do like this option - cheaper than mine plus TSV is a nicer place to visit than HBA at this time of year and you'd actually be able to get out of the airport for a few hours! Looking at only weekends the first available same-day run (starting 06:05 at SYD and getting back at 21:00) I found was on Aug 25, which mightn't be an issue if the OP can do it during the week.

...not to mention having to set off early on a drive to CBR to make that first flight. I have done the HBA run in one day, driving to and from CBR, but I have the benefit of residing in south-west Sydney! ;)

TSV does sound nice.

You can do a JASA SYD-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-SYD in one day (0630 depart & 1700 arrive) and earn 200 s/c.

eg Wed 15th Aug costs 48,000 points plus $265 (or 75,184 points all inclusive)

You would also earn 2,690 points for the flights as a gold.
