Hi folks. I've told my husband I'd get your help to get him from Gold to Platinum by April 2013. He has around 400 status points to get. He may be doing a trip Adelaide-Wellington-Melbourne- Adelaide in March which should net 260 points in Business. He only has around 50,000 points as I've already burned them on a bus class flight from Singapore.

So he will need another day of flying so any help please?

He will have a lot of travel in the next 12 months so platinum would be a prize and he will maintain it the next year.

He never gets the double status points email unfortunately.

Make sure he has ticked the boxes to receive offers under his "Your Profile"; this will not guarantee he gets a double status credit offer, but not ticking them will guarantee that he won't get an offer. JV

I'll check his profile, thanks for that. We are based in Adelaide.

Gah, you're right JV, not selected for promos dammit.

Go for the Platinum status - he won't regret it. I did a lot of status runs last year to get over the line (helped by a Double status offer as well)
i suspect he'll find himself flying via Syd international to enjoy the pleasures of the First Class Lounge - definitely one of the upsides of WP (Personal view but I don't think the Melb lounge is a patch on Sydney's)

He did experience Platinum a couple of years ago and always raved about Sydney first lounge. It's in his bucket list to get Platinum again and we fly thru Sydney so I can experience it. So he'll do whatever it takes to get there.

I just realised that one year he travelled so much for work he made it to platinum then took me from bronze to gold! That was impressive. He's lifetime silver now and heading towards lifetime gold.

I'm trying to sort this out at the moment but was wondering if there are more status credit points if I search/book Adelaide - Melb - Auckland or search/book Adelaide - Auckland only ( which still involves the stop in Melbourne on same flights as the first example due to no direct flights from Adl). The trip I'm planning and which will be done for work nets 260 status. So then we just need three Bus class return flights Adl Mel and he's there!

Doesn't matter for earning purposes as long as each flight has a different flight number. The benefit of having one PNR is that if there is a problem with any flight then the airline will look after you and get you to your final destination.

Thanks for the info re flight number being the key.

Usually I only get the double credit email but Mrs davlaw got it as well so it was easier to convince her to fly to Auckland for the weekend. She has gone from silver to Gold and I have got WP for the first time. She now wants to fly with me whenever I am going through SDY or MEL as she (and I) want to check out the 1st lounge. DC's made it easy for us to get there. I know we knock Q but living in a regional area I have only Q link to choose from and offering me DC's does get my loyalty especailly now I have WP.

I'm with you davlaw. I have to use Q link for my first trip always or a virgin flight that leaves at cough time. Wish i could get the DSC offer too. Would really help with my loyalty too :)

ADL-TSV via BNE as a JASA is perfect for him.

The return trip is 48k points and $276 and nets 240 SCs.

One way in J and return in Y would get him to the 400 required SCa I imagine.

The one PNR or the one ticket? I was alerted to a subtle difference on another thread?

Thank you. Sounds like a great option. Now, with a double sc offer he would be there.

And I will make it to that amazing F lounge and make sure we have the maximum time there to enjoy it!

Assuming this is a qantas trip, obvious really due to the topic, then he won't be flying ADL-WLG direct. Therefore route via SYD on the way to WLG. Does he have to go to MEL on the way back? IF not also go via SYD. Why? Because it gets an extra 20SC, ADL-SYD is worth 60 SC in business, ADL-MEL is worth 40SC.

Yep medhead, he has to go to Melbourne for the day for work. At least he can fly out through Sydney. :)

Of course, the connections to WLG via SYD aren't very good, IIRC.

It might also be worth investigating the extra marginal cost of returning via SYD to MEL. But not really necessary with the JASA to TSV.
