Hi everyone

I want to upgrade to gold and need to do a status run for 160SC this weekend. While I only have 30,000 VV points left, I will be doing a lot of travel on Virgin over the coming months so gold would be great.

I have tried to look at possible status runs, but was hoping for some expert advice from this forum. Run would be ex Sydney.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I think you may have to find some more points, but you could go to ADL via MEL and back for another 6k points or so...

...or the most comfortable way, but using some $ would be SYD-PER-SYD, book flexi and upgrade using points.

Thanks for your help. Quite a lot of $ on one flight to reach gold and the upgrade would not be guaranteed. Looks like I will have to leave it this time.

Cheers

It's probably worth hitting up your family members to come along too. You can only pool one person over the age of 18 into your account, but it's a time efficient way of upping the SC yield of any given trip. I think my mum is getting a bit sick of getting dragged all over the country on SC runs :)

How many SCs are dropping off, remember its not all like QF?

I haven't had a look at the spreadsheet lately, but when I did some quick searching for AndyGoodyear I noticed that the best value runs seem to have dried up. Guessing there are a quite few AFFers on a pre-June 30 SC run?

Aaaah yes the infamous spreadsheet. I now have access :) Thanks lobo76 - I appreciate it

I'd suggest you want some short-ish routes with Business. Having a quick check on some semi-random destinations I see that you can get to ADL (Via MEL) for 21200 one-way... but that's only 80SCs and you'd have to pay for your trip back. Another good one to look at is MKY (891 miles) as it's just over the 750 mile mark and into the next higher SC bracket... but higher reward point cost too. Pity I can't find any of the trips going via CBR. SYD-CBR is ridiculously short, so I've always found SCs per point fairly low.

I've had the same conundrum but need 180SC. Few ideas based on spreadsheet but it will net you more than 160 and cost around $150. Now how to PM on mobile...

If you can get yourself to NTL and don't mind an overnight stay then I can see availability for 140 SC within your points budget. Could possible tweak it to get to 160

I don't mind staying overnight at all! If you do have a route I'd really appreciate it

I've PM'd you. I want more than anything to hit gold so if you have something too, that would be great.

You could do SYD-BNE points 11700 J = 40 SC's, BNE-CBR via MEL (BNE-MEL 60 MEL-CBR 40) points j 17500 then buy flexi back to SYD for $229 = 160
