Hi all,

Been a Gold with Qantas for a few years straight now but looks like I'll need to do a status run for the first time to retain Gold. I have up til May next year and will need around 200 SCs...Couple of questions...is there any advantage in booking JASA early in term of discount and what route would you recommend to take that'll get me 200 SCs?

Thanks

TT

Welcome to AFF, where are you starting your run from as it makes a difference in terms of options.

Hi Markis10...sorry forgot to mention that my status run starts from SYD...

SYD would mean the CBR-SYD-HBA for 16000 points + cash would be the best, 100 SC each way, and the earlier you book, often means better availability of the special cheaper JASA's!

markis10 thanks for the reply...

With your suggestion of CBR-SYD-HBA, I assume that you meant a JASA departing from SYD-CBR-SYD-HBA-SYD so that I can start from SYD and end up in SYD again? I was going to call Qantas to ask but may as well ask here...with JASA you don't have to travel business class to get SC right?

Thanks a lot

TT

The cheap JASA would start and end at CBR, there is nothing from SYD thats comparable that I am aware of.

J is a generic reference to Business and ASA is any seat award so, yes, you do actually fly in J (Business). A YASA would be the same thing but in Economy.

To get business class SC's yes you do need to be traveling in business.

Ah...now it's making a lot more sense! Thanks very much! I have fam in both DRW and CAN and will look at options from DRW as well tonight...

DRW-TSV or VV via BNE is 140 SC for 24K of points plus $100 or so, its the best value run because of the points earned lowering its actual cost, but requires a night in TSV so positioning costs are high.

JASA SYD-BKK/SIN return and its 240 SC for 120K + $$$

Alot of points yes but a quick trip overseas in a real J cabin, than domestic J.

PS. Welcome back to AFF, its taken three years to get your first post going ;)

DRW-BNE on Thus and Sun is a real J cabin ;)

Totally agree this is by far the best value route for points and $$$...for 280 SC's it's worth the hassle of finding overnight accomm in TSV...

And you get two breakfasts on the TSV_DRW leg ;), thought I would throw that in given the recent interest in food items on AFF.

I'm dragging up an old thread but combining 2 JASA threads together you could go:
ADL-(BNE)-TSV-(BNE)-DRW (return, with time spent in Darwin and nights in TSV)

520 SC
for
96000 points + approx $460

If you're flying to ADL from MEL, SYD etc then you'll get yourself to retain your status for the year by completing the trip (and getting used to BNE).

I only need around 200+ SC to retain Gold but thanks gizzard...96000 points is a fair bit but definitely worth keeping in mind for 520 SC!

I have just completed a SYD/BNE/TSV/BNE/SYD status run JASA in one day with reasonable time at QF pubs on the way - all for 48,000 ff points plus $220 - earned 200 sc's & 5268 ff points.
