Good morning everyone,

I have been a member of Velocity Member since 24 March 2013. See my upgrade to silver info below

I have a trip booked August 2013 which will earn me 80scs to put me up to 230 - I need to do a short trip departing MEL for 10scs per flight. I was thinking of leaving this weekend on a flight but I want to be there and back same day. I want to spend less than $250 if possible - discount economy if possible. Any ideas apart from the Sydney - Melbourne run (somewhere different would be nice - I cannot tell you how many times I have done that Sydney - Melbourne run over the years).

Thanks :)

Launceston, Mildura and Newcastle would be worth a look. Remember that flexi fares give double status credits! So if a flexi is less than double the saver, it is better value. I would imagine MEL-NTL-MEL will suit your needs.

For the future MEL - OOL with a connection somewhere can be worth 20 - 25 SC's on a saver and 40 - 50 on a flexi.

I've seen saver lite fares for a MEL - OOL via SYD down to around $100 recently

Ohhh a flexi Mel to Ntl might be in order then I will have a look when I get home tonight :-) ty !!!

Do you NEED to get to silver in August? If not, maybe save the status run for later in the year to prolong the silver status...

Is it my calculator or yours that's faulty? If you have 140 now and 80 coming in August, that'll equal 220, not 230. So you really need two sectors + 30SCs which really means a cheap MEL-OOL rtn just might be the cheapest 30 SCs for you.

A day trip to Hobart on Sunday will set you back $234 plus credit card fee. A long gap between flights though.

MEL-OOL rtn just might be the cheapest 30 SCs for you.

Just re-read and you stated you were hoping for this week-end. My recent experience seems to be only expensive flights are usually left close to day of travel however next week-end could, at the moment, net you 40SCs for a MEL-SYD-OOL rtn for $220, but as MandM has said, if you don't need silver so soon, just wait for a special to pop up and you can from time to time grab a MEL-OOL rtn for circa $158 (+ CC fees if required).
