Hi and thanks to all the experienced members who post on here, there is a font of excellent information and I have learned a lot.
I am a SFFer who have already the number of Status points to re-qualify at end of February 2011. With the flights I still have I will be well over the 250 Status points(Sp) for re-qualify. It is a shame to waste the Sp's I already have over the 250 and need only 220 for Gold. So I have decided to go for it!
Can you advise me the best way to get these? I am thinking of doing a status run, this way:
Perth - Singapore - Melbourne - Perth (sorry I dont know all the jargon). With a stay in Melbourne (for theater show).
I dont want to stay in Singapore a long time and am thinking of arriving and then turning around for Melbourne. Would there be any problem in Singapore arriving and then departing some hrs later with customs/immigration?
Thanks.

Well Ozonslo with Silver you have seat selection already.Gold thru Platinum extras are being quickly eroded but these folks get first crack at upgrades (off upgradable tickets) if there is a scarcity and get some better seat selections and luggage limits.
What are you trying to achieve?

Is this a question about Qantas Status Credits ?

Your routing PER-SIN-MEL-PER only gives you 75SC in discount Y, 150SC in full Y and 300SC in J. What class were you planning on flying in? If you need 220SC’s, you’ll need a lot of other flying if you’re doing this on the cheapest fares ;)

You shouldn’t have any problems arriving in SIN and then departing again, though would assume you wont have anything checked-in to make for a speedy turnaround?

Have you looked into a StarClass flight, there’s a sale extended until Wednesday for flights to/from MEL in February. That’d get you a $699 flight giving you 120SC.

You should also consider using your points, if you have enough and have some spare, to buy a JASA, that is a J Any Seat Award, which would earn you SC’s.

Good luck!

Thanks Sam004 that is very helpful and i will check the Starclass sale. All the best.

How many points do you have, PER-SIN is a poor earner and you would be much better placed looking at something like - PER-ADL paid, then a ADL-TSV return JASA.

Hi Markis10,
Presently I have 80000 points and 480 status points. I'll have a look at your suggestion, thanks.

ADL-TSV return as a JASA will cost 48000 points + $179 and return 240 SCs:

Dont forget you do earn some points back as well:

What happens if the plane is delayed and you can't make the flight back? Do you have to burn the mega-points to get on another flight?

Oh, and do you know any good JASAs originating from MEL? :D

If the plane is delayed you will be on it anyway in the case of the TSV and Hobart runs, so no big deal, however to answer your question in a more general sense, its unlikely the delay would be in the air, so you have time between the first and second legs to accommodate the change at no cost. QF are pretty forgiving if they are the reason things did not work out, and as its on one ticket you are protected to the point where I suspect you would get a free night!

Re: Status run - any seat award

I was being a bit slow to catch on this thread, and have discovered I could have used any seat award to earn SCs. I am short of 30 SCs to make silver this month, so I booked flights across the Tasman for this. However, if I had understood how to use points+pay for any seat award I could have saved myself some $ and got better SCs.

I do have one question which I hope some forumites may clarify it for me. If I book any seat award, and choose any combination of points + pay for a J seat, do I get all the points and SCs as if I pay normal J fare?

Thanks for all your helpful posts, as always!

You can reduce the J ASA down to the classic level by paying $$$ and you get SCs etc, points + pay is different as it allows you to use points for almost all of the fare, reason being its at horrible redemption rates in terms of the points cost. By reducing the JASA to classic award levels, you are getting much better value.

Thanks, markis, for your quick reply - much appreciated the clarification.

I have just re-read the thread featured in the AFF gazette, and I understand it better now how to use J ASA to earn SCs.

Alas its time for me to pull the status run card due to a quiet year of flying... Need ~100SC's so thinking of ADL > TSV, but never done before...

Anyone done this run recently and can comment on the feasibility considering the tight time between flights...? i.e 45min between outgoing and return flights...? or is it still the same plane as someone mentioned a while ago...?

And don't forget to consider booking out of NZ on the QF NZ website. Better pricing and conversion

Are you saying that a classic award earns SC's?

No, I am saying you can reduce any ASA down to the same number of points as a classic reward would require, in some cases this will result in a cheaper award than a classic award as an ASA does not have extra fees etc ontop of the points cost. See the sticky on how and why, it takes advantage of the low value QF put on the points when they are reduced, while also resulting in a lower net cost when you factoring the points earned on the award.

Ah I see sansei. Yes I think we have done this ourselves. It seems to be a matter of trawling the site for deals and dates that suit?
