Perhaps a touchy subject but with all the status extensions being offered by Qantas this year (a simple 1 flight for extension), I'm a little concerned about the value proposition of status for at least the next 12 months or so for those that are actually flying.

Does anyone with experience know if (and perhaps how) Qantas looks at requests via multiples within a status as we know multiple Golds, Plats etc. will be traveling on any given flight and most are also looking to upgrade etc.?

Personally, I will be reaching Plat via flights shortly (and perhaps PlatOne) so be nice to know that when utilising the benefits I actually have a shot versus the many grandfathered in at same levels but without the recent travel.

Any and all comments appreciated!

QF have a value assigned to all customers.. called PCV I think. It's based on status of course, but actual spend (ie how much they conned out of us :) ) and so on. So things like actual spend in a membership year (earning it on your own) would almost certainly contribute to this. However it's just one factor and I suspect anyone who knows simply can't say as it's commercial information.

Certainly within the P1 ranks there has long been a perceived "status within status" as you put it. Some folks tend to get more love vs others. If it's due to this PCV or other reasons or just dumb luck it's hard to know but there's definitely a view that it is a thing.

Would it matter for Plat's making requests and the like? possibly.

Short answer: yes, I think so - even if just marginally.

PS: P1 is not worth chasing imo.. not that you may be chasing it per se, but just a comment from a peanut in a gallery.

Thanks for the response RichardMEL, hopeful it is this way.. the majority of my flights are international with all booked in PE so I expect that helps somewhat also.

Won't be chasing P1 but have taken advantage of the recent double SC promotion for one quick run to NZ in order to fast track Plat by one trip - the first lounge access along with expedited security clearances internationally are benefits that in normal times can't be understated but in this crazy travel climate even more so.. its one of the definite benefits of Emerald over Sapphire for international travel.

The MEL and SYD club lounges the past few weeks looked like they had given access out in cereal boxes, it was absolute mayhem.
