Hey guys,

I have a rather weird question here - one of my distant cousins is stranded in PER at the moment on a SIN-PER-SYD itinerary (originally on QF72/566). QF72 was late this morning and obviously he missed his connection on QF566 so he's now on QF568 enduring an 8-hour wait at PER.

Although I do understand that QF has rules regarding 24-hour timeframe for points upgrade to business, do you guys think they would make an exception and allow me to use my points to upgrade him? He has been on the move for more than 12 hours now, and I would be so happy if he could have a more comfortable onward journey into SYD.

Thanks guys!

Wenglock.

I doubt that they would waive the rules even in this instance. He'd have more chance trying to get an upgrade from QF because of the late arrival and 8 hour delay (at least he was protected and automatically transferred to the next available flight). But I'd say he might be in a queue there...and PER/SYD flights are usually full in J, but he might have some chance at a On Departure Upgrade.

You can transfer sufficient points to him, in order to cover the ODU points cost, under the Family Transfer rules.

Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for your quick response... I guess he probably wouldn't want to bother the counter staff there so I was just hoping that there was somebody that I could talk to or something that I could do to make his journey more comfortable.

Thank you again in any case. :)

Sorry to put out two replies - I didn't read your post carefully enough the first time round. However, if I did understand correctly -

  1. wouldn't an ODU have to be explicitly requested by himself, and
  2. is the points cost for an ODU the same as for a normal upgrade?

I phoned up QF reservations, and they also suggested that going to the QC (and getting the ODU from there) would be the best option. However, the lounge passes are with me and I have no way of physically getting them to him now. :(

You probably did read my reply correctly, I added the last sentence a minute or so later. As I was still signed into this thread, it didn't show that I had changed my post.

If he has access to the Qantas Club, then he can do the ODU inside the Lounge. If he is outside in the Terminal and no access to the Qantas Club, then no way to score an ODU. Points cost is the same, no discount :(

He could always try and have someone guest him into the Club. Once inside, it doesn't matter about how he accessed, he has the right to request the ODU.

Tough then... hahaha...

Thanks so much for your help Lindsay... appreciate it!

No problems, happy to (try and) help.

Note that I also change my last response a couple of times and only just before you posted your final reply above.
