I never book flights the easy way and need some suggestions from the brains trust.

For the last 3 years I have been going to Amsterdam for a work trade event, it lasts for 3 days in Amsterdam.

In July I found a HKG-BNE in Qantas J points redemption. one way which I booked.

So last week decided to piece the rest of the trip together.

HKG-LHR-HKG which cost $899 in economy. QF/BA. from Qantas Hong Kong.

I found SYD-HKG on VS for points redemption in PE. which I booked.

I booked Qantas BNE-SYD on points to connect to VS, arrive SYDNEY 12:50PM.

I also booked LGW-AMS through the British Airways website.

Now the problem.

SYD-HKG on VS didn't ticket and the points didn't come off, so stuck in Sydney.

LGW-AMS hasn't come of the credit card but it shows in the Qantas website, should I ring Qantas, rang Qantas they didn't seemed to worried about it; well at least I have the email.

The solution.

Book a one way VS SYD-HKG $961.00 :shock::mad:
or
Cancel my J award and book a return trip out of Australia for $1181.00
or
Book a return trip on Cathay Pacific for $1185.00 and pick a return flight a long way into the future.

The Virgin Atlantic website wanted to verify the credit card which may have delayed the purchase and it timed out, I didn't keep a copy of the booking reference as VS wanted details more details about the credit card.

I did the same thing with British Airways they wanted to verify the credit card but I got an email from British Airways.

Any suggestions, even if its to say I am an idiot.

I would go for the CX option; BNE-HKG-AMS is a nice direct routing
Remember that on some days of the week, CX flights BNE-HKG are via CNS, making it more a routing "as the crow flies", while technically "direct" per airline definitions.

Ex-UK tickets can take some time for the money to disappear.

Presume there's no e-ticket yet issued for it. I'd wait a few more days.

I rang Qantas yesterday and they said it shows in the booking at 69.40 GBP so I wasn't too worried about that part.

The credit card charge for BA showed up this morning, took about 3 days.

Don't have a SYD-HKG ticket, I will make a decision on that before the weekend.

Just an update;

After about 2 weeks of trying a VS award came back. :cool::D

I had to book another flight last night AMS-LHR from BA and with Qantas you add the credit card details and hit go it comes back with a booking number; with BA and Westpac I need to add more details about the credit card; I forgot to do it again last night and it timed out; at least the price didn't change and I redid the booking. :idea:

So the full itinerary is BNE-SYD-HKG-LHR/LGW-AMS-LHR-HKG-BNE

STN-AOI-STN on Ryanair still to book.

I wonder if BA offer me a GBP 60 upgrade on AMS-LHR like they for the LGW-AMS as it could be handy as I have a big parcel I want to get back to the UK from Amsterdam.

Paying excess baggage rates will likely be cheaper, especially if pre-paid. AMS-LHR is a very short flight on which to enjoy the additional benefits of Club Europe :rolleyes:.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Found the excess baggage: GBP 35.00: GBP 28.00 if I prepay, for UK and Europe.
