Hey All,

Thought I might turn to the experienced travellers once again for some travel advice.

I'm just about to clock up 900,000 frequent flyer points and I'd like to use them up. I'm currently WP until June next year, however I really don't have any flying planned so I can see my status level dropping very quickly in the future. As a result, I think to get the most out of my points I should be booking whilst I'm WP and can get myself onto some flights.

I'm wanting to take my other half with me (she would kill me otherwise) so I suppose its 450,000 points in travel to use. Looking for suggestions on where to go and what to do. I'm pretty keen on flying mostly F/J (the requirement would be at least 1 leg in F on A380 i.e. MEL/SYD - LAX, LHR-SIN/MEL/SYD) I'm based in Brisbane but can really start anywhere.

Recently done LA/San Fran/New York/London/Paris/Rome/Singapore/Tokyo so looking for some other suggestions on what to do, no time limits apply and I'd looking at booking the trip a full year in advance.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Hayden

Slightly changing the direction of the thread, but out of curiosity how and how long did it take to accumulate 900k in points? Quite impressive. :)
It's a bit like money in the bank, some people get enough and then spend it, and other seem to hoard points and have one massive spending spree :D

To be honest I dont think I've ever "used" points before - I signed up to QFF in 2001, so 10 years worth of collecting.

A fair chunk of that comes off my credit card spend over the last few years, and I have recently done a DONE4 which helped a little

from memory rtw award in F is about 440k points each. Not 100% on this but it's around that mark. You should do it =) fantastic way to burn points though if you did a FASA you'd earn some of the points back and your status also.

Yeah I had a look at some JASA - I was looking at MEL-LAX and i think it came in around 1.5 mil points. I guess its just a matter of finding the right flight on the right day.

If you plan WELL in advance you should be able to get some good JASA's.

See this thread for more information:

Yeah I saw that thread before actually.

Having a look now theres a few days where its 180k or so points for a JASA, which can be dropped back to 144k points and pay around $450 in around 12 months time.

That was MEL-LAX on a 747, I was hoping for a a380 F experience (already done it on the 747) However I thought I read somewhere that there should be more a380's on that route soon, so I wonder if any of those aircraft would be replaced with a 380??

Only the first 12 388's of Qantas will be initially fitted out with First Class. The remainder with be Business/PE/Economy.

You need to look at flights 353 days in advance to have the best chance at snaffling F class 388 seats if they ever are available.

Of course, forgot about that.

I did manage to find 1 seat, but 2 could be a problem. Might just be a case of logging in every night and seeing what I can come up with.

Just a thought - are you able to give other half more than 100k/year.

FASA don't think they use A380 I've been looking the last couple of months (for 2012) but only 747's SYD-LHR, you may be lucky with MEL-LAX.

Got 'good' priced FASAs on A380 MEL-SIN-MEL for next year but literally did book them the day they became available. Was watching them for a while, and they never seemed to 'last' more then a day or two at best.
