Hi there,

I've had a good search and can't find anything to answer my question... so here goes...

If my wife is a supplementary card holder on my account, can she apply for her own card and be considered a 'new' customer (in order to get a signup bonus)??

Any help or anyone with any experiences with this would be a great help!

Thanks in advance!

Aaron I think your wife will qualify. You could call the credit card company.
It is a very good idea for both to have their own credit history and do not wait to do this after you "retire" as many credit card issuers run on taxable income and tax assessments.

Excellent! I'll give it a shot anyways...

Not too worried about the credit history and retiring bit... we're only young and still chasing the points like mad!

Thanks.

Ok which card are you looking at and do you have a plan of where you want to get to on those points?

Well I have the Amex Plat Charge.. and ANZ Platinum Visa/Amex combo and Mrs aaronjames000 has the Macquarie Plat and is supplementary to the other two..

Was considering enrolling the Mrs. with the Plat Edge (15k referral sign-on bonus) to maximise points on supermarket and fuel.. if somebody wants to refer us so we both get more points that would be grand :):) and probably the ANZ Plat Combo for the 40k signon.

Have already applied myself for the Macquarie hopefully another 40k points there.

Once all of the bonus points are in we will re-evaluate but will probably end up keeping Mac Plat as the Visa option with $1:1 and the ANZ amex or simlar for the amex $1:1.5

As far as a plan for the points.. have 600k qantas and 150k Amex MR points... and I would like to hit 1 million total points (for no particular reason!)

Realistically just warehousing points so we can use them for J or F award bookings and more than likely a J RTW explorer type thing for us.

Any advice you can offer?

Well we have run up points now in Qantas, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia. Separately we bought AA points when they have offered a 50% points bonus.

Yeah so far I haven't ventured into Virgin or Singapore Points... Figured I'll do a bit more warehousing with the Amex until we find somewhere good to use them.

Have already got my wife and kids accounts with AA so we can take advantage next time a really good deal comes up.

Just recently learned about Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. Very interesting indeed. :)

Thanks for the PM. I'll get reading!

The thing you have to watch with Singapore Air is the 3 year points expiry so you should warehouse points. Don't bother using Kris flyer points for economy flights as the redemption taxes are too high.
