Hi there all, this may not be the correct area to post this (if there is one), but I just want to know what others feel about invitations to partake in surveys.

Today I get yet another one from the Commonwealth Bank. It says they "know my time is precious" so the survey would only take 3 minutes.

Sorry, but I am far more valuing of my time. Unless there is a clear benefit (cash, points, etc) offered, then I would never do a survey.

Input, my time, for free???? What are they thinking??

I'll have a look at most, if its an institution I deal with a lot. But if its just looking for the answers they want, just close it and delete.

I do the Red Planet ones for points, but if poorly designed (i.e. feel like they keep asking the same question even though I've said not relevant or applicable) then i give up as the points are high enough to compensate for the time. The recent HSBC survey on Red Planet were very painful, so I gave up.

WRT surveys which dont offer rewards (points or google play cash) I will generally only do them if i feel passionate about giving feedback for that product/service/company. Rewards aside I've been sure to give feedback on the nbn customer surveys and also for products ive recently purchased online (product reviews help others).

One thing that always makes me dismiss is when doing a booking on a site and in the middle of doing all the searches, up pops a ‘survey box’ asking for my booking experience. And on some devices it is difficult to find where to click to dismiss or minimise and it covers the whole page as an overlay. I gave up on the Qantas one a year ago when they’d ask a lot of questions then tell me I didn’t meet criteria and so no points. Very dodge.

My time is money!! Unless I get points or $$, i don't bother!

I am still unhappy with Westpac so when I couldn’t say anything nice I decided not to complete their survey. Their manager already knows what I think and he will figure more out when the bank gets no new deals on asset finance.

I do them if I don't have any other pressing engagements.

I do the NAB monthly business progress survey and AFR surveys.

Not interested unless the experience has been a shocker and I feel like a rant or unless there's something in it for me. Entry into a competition draw is not enough carrot.

.... Entry into a competition draw is not enough carrot.
Only if its J or higher for me now. I see a comp, read the T&Cs and see economy, nope - not risking my one-only-karma-life win on a Y seat.

Sometime I'm happy to do surveys. I probably start about 50% of the ones I'm asked to do. Then I probably complete only about 50% of those. I will drop out of any survey that is badly designed and especially when it won't let me progress to the next question without answering the previous one but the previous one does not have the answer I want to give available as an option.

Unless there is a clear benefit (cash, points, etc) offered, then I would never do a survey.

Fully agree, and none of this Chance to Win nonsense that many of the cheapskate marketing mangers roll out.

TIP: For all surveys, competitions etc where you enter in an email address, I have a separate email account set up just for this purpose.

I do the NAB survey to get the business trends analysis.
Mrscove does Qantas Flight surveys.

If they don't offer you even a dollar, then that is what their real value of your input is.....

Seriously, they normally don't offer a dollar, not even 50 cents. That is because that is the real value of your input to them in the real world. You may feel that you are "having your say". But are you? You are spending at least 15 minutes on a survey. With actual payment (reward) averaging less than 10 cents per hour,, you are essentially doing it for free. And the result of their survey will be the opinions only of those who do not value their own time more than 10c per hour. I laugh at this reality when they are asking opinions of business+travel. People who earn a "tad more" than 10c per hour.

Depends on the company, how busy I am and if I actually care enough about the company to send in feedback.

Airline that I fly frequently = more likely. Website that I made a purchase from that one time = not so likely.

Edit: and "enter into a competition" will do nothing to make (or discourage) me to fill in a survey. A payment won't work either, since as juddles has alluded to they are never willing to pay me what I'd actually be charging them for my time.

As I posted earlier, this is a survey I would delve into.
