My father is currently considering switching loyalty programs because he believes it is getting harder and harder to use his miles on CX. He asked for my advice on QF, for some upcoming flights, but I know using points on QF isn't that good either sometimes. Probably especially bad from HKG? He already has 190 QFF SC's in this year thanks to some JQ flights, so by the end of June the best he could hope for is Gold, before making a good start in July.

I would expect that his best alternative would actually be AA, especially as he makes several RTW's a year, but I'm not well versed with what he'd earn with them. Then there's also BA to consider with their revamped program, but I recall reading they recently devalued their redemptions?

These are his flights for June-July, following successful re-qualification to CX Diamond (OWE). He already has a QF card which resets end-June. What do you think are his best options for switching programs? I believe his focus is redemptions, but of course he would like to remain Emerald too. And yes, I do realise there seems to be a double-up between the 9th and 11th June... I presume he's waitlisted on one. Thanks for the advice.

With cx there's a trick to redeeming miles. I won't post it here but cx times seat releases based on a number of factors... So if you're always trying to redeem for a seat a month out - you won't be in luck.

Things are soon changing with diamonds and their ability to upgrade too in a good way... Not a QF enhancement way.

Also keep in mind by crediting to another program he might earn slightly more points (even though cx premium cabin earn is excellent) but his treatment on cx as a one world emerald will significantly decline as he will be in between cx gold and silver in the Pekking order.

Also would say goodbye to diamond op ups and the free upgrades every 25 flights.

AA and Ba are the obvious choices... But then you also have Alaskan that may work.

I'd also look at where credit card points are coming from as that can be a large part of the overall strategy of where your flights get credited to for maximising every mile.

Perhaps you better have a drink with him at the FCC some time, to help steer him in the right direction.
