Hi All,

I'm QFF, VA WP and UA WP (*A Gold) and have a business trip from Sydney to Hong Kong coming up in a few weeks with choice between QFF, VA, CX and SQ to fly with.

Who would you go for considering preference of Direct and Lie Flat Bed - QFFlounge Syd is great but I'd prefer a good nights sleep on the red eye home....

Looking forward to hearing what you all think!

Cheers,

By VA I take it to mean VS AKA Virgin Atlantic, pretty cool product when it comes to J with the inflight bar etc, not to mention lounge.

Yes - by *VA it will be VS. Thanks for the pick up. So recommended then? Good lie flat beds too?

They are all in the race of being the pedigree carriers in J between SYD/HKG.
I have tried three & personally am biased toward SQ though VS, I believe is a great product to HKG.
Perhaps others can add some light on the VS J offering..

Thanks Jetlagger - I presume all SQ SYD-HKG would require stop over in Singapore but has the plus of the A380 experience.....

& the large seat.. & the consistent service & the refresher stop in SIN. :D

You're selling the dream well.....:D About to get my first SQ J SYD/SIN A380 experience next week so that could tip in your favour!

If you want a good night sleep why add to the travel time going via SIN? Qf now has A380 to HKG and in my opinion the seat/bed is as good as any. Have not flown SQ A380 but Skytrax seat reviews does have a lot of negative comments

Go with CX. You get the Cirrus seat (unless you are unlucky enough to get a last min subs, which would most likely be a coffin seat), and CX pax use the QF lounges in SYD.

That's awesome "Awesome Andy", thanks. Any tips on how to work out exactly which version they use for which flights? I'm looking at either the 10:10am or 14:00 up on the Monday and the 19:00 return on the Thursday.....

Cheers!

They only use the new aircraft for SYD-HKG-SYD flights now.

Just to confirm the seatmap should be:

1 2 1

rather than

1 1 1

In the old config.

Personally if it was price independent I would go QF on the A380. More FF points.

Many rave about the newer CX J seat, so good is it other airlines have opted for it too. Then the CX lounges in HKG are as good or better than most. Can check bags on departure in town.

Can't you do in town check in for all airlines?

i agree re the CX seat though!

I'm going to be the agumentative type here. I don't like them. As far as business seats go yes, they have lots of room and the features of the seat, the IFE is all good but here are some points about them I didnt like about them. Firstly the Diagonal seating by the window means, you can't actually see out the window, particularly during take off and landing when you can't move forward towards where the windows are accessible..Secondly the layflat sleeping looks allg ood and well, but I found that I inevitably had to end up sleeping on my side to take any advantage of it, because of the triangular block next to where your head rests. At least with the Skybeds you an move about a bit more.

The thing I did like most about the CX J seat, was the IFE controlelr, with its "Remaining time" to destination permamently displayed on the panel, was great for glancing at while trying to sleep knowing how little time remained.

Each to their own - I havent had many issues with the new CX seat (and I sleep on my side normally). The best thing for me is to be able to route my iPad through the IFE so I can watch my shows on their screen :D

Thanks Simongr - Have also been struggling to find a QFF flight up and back Mon/Thurs which is A380. Am I missing something?

Not sure - just checking a random date in April I can't see an A388 on a Monday but can on a Thursday.
