I have to fly SYD-MEL return at the end of September. I missed out on the recent $79 fare special unfortunately and the lows QF flight is at around $133. What would the advice be here, wait it out and hope for another sale or get in ASAP?

Return that's $100 difference. Not huge, but on a uni student budget....

If its too expensive, wait.

End of Sept is AFL finals time. So demand will rise. Keep a look out on how Sydney Swans play

Qantas started a sale today. Website shows fares from $89 at end of september.
Whoops, my bad, sorry they're Jetstar.

Main reason is double SC offer should bump me to Silver

I would wait. Alot of capacity on the route now with Tiger 11 Daily, Jetstar about to increase,

I booked a fare MEL-SYD same day return last monday on the same morning, Virgin $109 up, Tiger $49 back. Not bad for a few hours before departure.

Henry, When you thinking of coming down to MEL? I have two trips to SYD planned in September and was just wondering the same thing about booking. MEL-SYD on 5 Sept, SYD-MEL on 9 Sept, MEL-SYD on 12 or 13 Sept, SYD-MEL on 16 Sept planned at this stage, want to book soon but hoping for a sale.

I am in a similar boat. I do a self-funded MEL-SYD return each week through to November and have booked each week except the w/c 24 Sep and 1 Oct. I got everything else at less than $100 each way, but have not seen the fares for the outstanding fortnight dip below $133 for the past few months. I thought it may have been related to School Holidays, but it looks like it follows it. $133 seems to be the peak ready deal so I don't think there is anything to lose by waiting a few more weeks on the off chance they do find some capacity.

Keep in mind that late Sept to early Oct is school holidays in NSW and VIC. Most airlines do not offer special/sale fares during this period as planes are generally full.

Otherwise, if one wants SC (and FF points), there is always the JQ Starter Plus bundle which is still generally cheaper than QF.

I think football is an issue for those dates!
