Just to clarify, the topic should be "SYD-PER/PER-SYD best chance of upgrade - QF565 or QF566?" ta :)

Hi AFFers,

Decided I wanted to visit Perth (WA's the only state I've haven't yet visited, thought it was about time!) and booked some Red e-Deal fares for Easter - SYD-PER Fri 21/3 06:10 (QF565) and departing PER Mon 24/3 16:15 (QF566).

QF565 appears to be a 737-800 (12J), and QF566 appears to be a 747-338 (52J). Am I right in assuming J on QF566 will be a Skybed (and QF565 will be regular domestic J seating - Dreamtime seats)?

I'm considering surprising my girlfriend with an upgrade to J for one leg, and wondering which one I'd have a better chance with?

My thinking is QF566, because:
  • Easter time = more Y pax on holidays, and less J pax on business?
  • 52 J seats vs 12 J seats
Am I way off there?

QF566 would definitely be my choice if it's a Skybed. I could always just hope for an op-up on QF565 I guess.

Appreciate any advice or past experiences. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: I'm a WP, so hopefully that might help with any ODU request.

Febs,

Normally the 747-338 is the older version, so no skybeds. I've travel J on the 743 a few time to Perth and found the old J seats like the ones on the 767/737. So I think your out of luck their but being a 5 hour flight, J is a nice way to go coming back from Perth.

I think you would have a better chance on the 743 of an upgrade but be careful about the red e deal ticket conditions as some of the staff won't allow you to upgrade but since you have WP status I think that will help???

Good Luck with it. I really enjoy my visits to Perth. If you need any tips on where to eat, stay and tours just PM me.

Doesn't QF run the A330 Syd-Per on some of the 610AM departures?

If so that has Skybeds right?....

Cheers

Ha, you know I completely forgot about that?
Yes, N class so excluded from ODU eligibility.

Oh well, wouldn't have have paid for the higher class fare anyway, so not too worried. Will just hope for an op-up. :)

Thanks,
- Febs.

PS: Thanks for your offer, PM on its way. :)

I'd still ask for ODU anyway, I've had success doing that multiple times.

That's correct, generally the Monday 5.45am flight is an A333 with Skybeds, my fav. flight to take over to SYD if I have to do a day or two's work..

Edit: Oh, and I'm PER based obviously; drop me a PM if you'd like to catch up.

Cheers; Dan.

Hi all,

Apologies for the bump, but...

If QF did do this, does does anyone know when they'd make the decision (and how I'd go about finding out)? At the moment the plane is still showing as a 747-338.

I'm in two minds now. Ideally I'd like to try for an upgrade on the SYD-PER flight (so we're a bit more refreshed when we get to PER at 9:10am, and also because I plan on having minimal to no sleep the night before), but I'm not sure I want to spend the points just to move up to a Dreatime seat....

Then there's the matter of trying to score a friendly QP staffer who'll let me ODU. Anyone got any experience with them bending the N class ODU rules for WP's? Girlfriend (flying with me) is a SG if that helps at all.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Monday mornings is a 333
I would not hold out too much hope of getting an N class upgraded; it may happen, but not probable

Thanks Dave.

Not holding out too much hope for the ODU, but may as well try.

Think I'll try for the SYD-PER. Even if the seats are old, it'd be an interesting experience for my girlfriend to be in upperdeck (if available) as she's never been before. :)

Hmmm. I'll be going Per-Syd on Fri 21/3 and returning on Mon 24/3.. looks like we'll be on the same plane directly after one another..:)
