i think i've made the title a bit confusing - mods, if you understand it please feel free to change.

my mum wants to go to Berlin, leaving early July (before the 15th), for a maximum time away of 3 weeks.

she is willing to have a stopover in either of the 3 cities above if available (SIN/KUL/DXB) but only on the outbound.

Berlin is the destination.

Return to Sydney from either of the 3 cities above (BER/LHR/CDG), no stopover.

this needs to be a points booking, preferably in F, but J as a minimum. she has 0 points. i have USDM and LM, and 200k QFF (in my name, so not too helpful). Would be willing to purchase AA or Alaskan should it be cheaper or requiring a mix of *A and OW.

for those brave enough to have a look, thank you in advance!

You've chosen a peak travel period with only 2 months notice so your options on points are going to be extremely limited. Forget about F. AS miles for Europe can really only be used for CX for which of course there is no availability unless you wait until T-7 days which I'm guesing you dont want to risk?.

I would be focusing on going to CDG on MH J through USDM, or TG J through LMs and then buying a separate rev ticket CDG-TXL. Even with those options, there's very little availability.

I'm not seeing any TG J availability at all in the requested travel weeks either way (which is odd for TG as they hand out award seats like candy).

So, I'd stick with 1W for which USDM is generally cheaper than AA.

I can see SYD-KUL-CDG (MH J) on 15 July - the only J availability that week but does get the A380 on KUL-CDG. There's also connecting availibility AB Y ORY-TXL but it would mean transferring from CDG to ORY.

On the way back there is TXL-HEL-SIN (AY J) SIN-SYD (BA F) available on 30 July (same leaving from CDG) but that would be only 1 segment in F and you would be charged the entire F rate for the whole trip which I dont believe is good value.

A better option would be CDG-KUL (MH A380 J) KUL-CGK (MH J) CGK-SYD (QF J) on 2 August.

If your Mum doesnt fancy flying MH given the recent events she will need to travel Y.

If you would like the flight times and numbers I can provide these to you but will require the assistance fee.

Thanks

Plenty of TG F from BKK to MXP. Just get a TG J ticket from SYD to BKK. Lifemiles have 100% bonus buy at the moment. Just booked that exact route in July last night in fact.

You can then use either cash fare to Berlin from MXP or a USDM redemption.

There is some J availability on Air China from LHR to SYD as well through Lifemiles plus some TG out of MXP as well.

Good luck!

Plenty of TG F from BKK to MXP. Just get a TG J ticket from SYD to BKK.

That would mean buying two separate award tickets. Not a smart use of points IMO.

Yes, but at the last minute, it's pretty much the only option if you want F. There is some J SYD - MXP availability as well though.

Is UA F really F when compared to non-US carriers?

What about points to Singapore or BKK, then Srilankan J to Frankfurt for about AUD1100? Not quite Berlin, but the right country :) You can pick up a return to FRA for not much more than AUD2100.

thanks to those that provided some interesting routes... mods you can now close this one down.

for the record, something must have changed between this initial research as i have just booked:
SYD-BKK-ZRH Thai F
105k LMs + USD$100 taxes/booking fees
she will then have to pick up a paid ZRH-BER or TXL flight which looks to be around $250.

apparently doesnt know where to fly back from now so will have to wait and play that game at a later date. restricted to LM or AA since it will be a one way, but plenty of Thai F options back too now.
