Hi.
Is one hour (ie: T-1) enough time to allow for security and Y checkin for an 08:30 morning flight (with no priority) at T3? We have exit row seats, so need to go via the checkin counter for BP's.
I have allowed more time in the past but spent a lot of time waiting at the gate.
Thanks.

Personally I allow 2 hours however, if your bookings are on the same PNR & the next flight is a big wait I would do it as there is nothing to lose.

Different bookings - I wouldn't chase it.

This isn't a connecting flight is it? I would think an hour was plenty.

Thanks, I guess as long as I make the gate 20min before, there should be no problem.

I was there a little bit earlier last week but I think it should be enough time.

Note do not use the main security checkpoint if the queues are long. ;)

Ok, my error.

Misunderstood your post as T1 (international) and connecting to T3.....1 hour is sufficient, unless you hit traffic or any other delay we all suffer on the way to the airport.

I'm assuming you got exit row seats using the QF MMB (manage my booking) feature on the website.

Rule no 1: do not attempt OLCI (online checkin) because if you're in an exit row it won't allow you to print out your boarding pass. You will in fact still be checked in, however a staff member somewhere needs to verify your suitability for the exit row before you board. If you've already attempted OLCI you cannot print a boarding pass out at the kiosk you will need to see a person.

The best thing to do is when you arrive at the airport, go directly to one of the self service kiosks & scan the barcode on your QF itinerary or insert your QF ff card into the machine so it can retrieve your booking. Follow the prompts then a screen should appear alerting you about being in an exit row, so assuming you're able bodied make sure you click "yes" & it will print out a boarding pass.

If you need a paper tag for your bag (ie normal bag) select "1" when it asks you "how many bags do you have today without Qtags". If you are using your Qtag select "0" & proceed to the auto bag drop.

If you did attempt OLCI & you're travelling with no bags you will only be able to print out the A4 bit of paper at home that says "this is not a boarding pass etc" but it's probably quicker to bypass checkin at that time when it will be busy & go straight to the Customer Service desk after security & just ask for the boarding pass to be printed out.

I'm always in exit row via MMB on QF and use iPhone Qantas app to checkin the night before for my 05:30 flight out of CNS. It has a step to verify I meet the requirements for exit row, and never have to present to staffer for verification. I don't know if status has an influence on that process, but can't see why it would.

I know it's not SYD T3, but I've managed to time it lately to be walking through security at 05:10 as first boarding call announced and easily walk to gate in plenty of time. For SYD, I'd allow a bit longer for security and further to walk to gate (and assuming you can quickly identify your gate before or as you get through security).

The iphone app now supports checkin for exit rows same as the self service kiosks so as you've found out, there's nothing else to do as same result as using the kiosks.

The Qcard reader/tower/podium thing does not support the exit row checkin but I understand while the message will say "your checkin cannot be completed because you're in an exit row", if you had a Qtag on your bag you can proceed directly to the auto bag drop scan you Qcard with the chip on it at the ABD then send the bag off.

It wouldn't accept your suitcase if you weren't checked in. Just make sure you see the gate agent before boarding & ask them "can you take me off the ineligible to board list as I'm in an exit row and I used the Podium to checkin".

Once this is done you can still use your Qcard to board by scanning it when you go through to gate reader.

If you prefer the traditional boarding pass when you go to the QP or JL just ask the person on reception if they could please print out your boarding pass as you're in an exit row. This action now prompts the exit row questions to appear on screen so they can tick "yes" & verify you're able bodied etc etc.

Thanks again, I think we did the kiosk (with staff assistance) & security check it in under 10 minutes this morning. As it turns out there's now a 30min delay for our departure & the sky is looking a bit bumpy.

You are quite correct. While the message on the Qcard reader states that checkin cannot be completed, the auto bag drop does accept bags with Qcards. Arriving at T3 for an 8:30am flight on the Thursday before Easter, I had my bag dropped off, passed through security (express lane for SG helped) and was in the Qantas Club within 5 minutes. Reception at the Qantas Club printed my exit row boarding pass.
