Well...

I spent some Velocity points last week and bought a 12 month lounge membership... why you ask? Well, with the regular DJ flights I will be (and have been) taking between MEL and NTL, I thought it was a good time to join, and save the trek from the QP in the mornings after breakfast.

Due to cancelled NTL flights, I am now sitting at the lounge in SYD after driving down, paying an extra location fee on the hire car, and wasting 2.5 hours of my life behind a steering wheel driving into a city I don't like.

The lounge...

The last time I was in this room it was ANSETT - that was a while ago! My first impressions...

Entrance - wonderful welcome from the lady at the door
Ambiance - similar to the Ansett days
Food - nice selection of snacks
Drinks - crown served in crown glasses... ahhhh

No spirits, interesting...

So, my day with DJ...

Flights cancelled from NTL
Every person who I have spoken with on the phone or face to face has been pleasant, friendly and helpful, DJ also gave me seat 2F ;)

DJ has changed their ways so much as of recent it is blatantly obvious - my "care-o-meter" has gone from 0 to a 1.5 out of 10. Im less inclined to fly JQ from MEL to NTL now

Is Crown the only beer they serve? I’ve been meaning to try a lounge out, and book a sale fare somewhere, but haven’t got round to it yet as qualifying for QF is first priority.

I knew they didn’t serve spirits, but do they serve red/white and I suppose sparkling? Are the selections any good?

They had VB Raw last time I was there as well as decent red/white/sparkling choices.

IMO the food doesn't really compare to QP but it does the trick and the view of the runway can't be beaten :)

Is there two lounges at Sydney, last time I was there the view was of the food court. Are you thinking of the old one???

Hmmm only 1 DJ Lounge....admittedly its been a few months since I was there but there was definetely a raised platform adjacent the buffet with seating overlooking the runway.

Must be two levels then, thanks for the pic, thats not a bad view I must say!

Thanks for the update munitalP. It does seem like DJ are really making an effort to change their ways.

99% of the time in the QP, I usually just have a beer + snack and check my e-mail while in transit or waiting for a flight. Only thing stopping me from flying on DJ is their "Lack of Global Alliance", free AVOD, free booze/meal on flights, like QF. As l fly in whY 100% of the time, a seat is a seat to me (must be aisle though!). If DJ charge $89 and QF $99, l'll take QF any day of the week.

Interesting that you've joined the lounge on that basis - i initially moved over and switched to DJ for precisely that reason actually - was flying MEL-NTL a fair bit (initially every week or two, now every month or two) and had a few too many bad experiences with J* to consider making a habit of it. The Lounge in Sydney is pretty good. I think it's the best on the network. It's the biggest, has the best views (they are great actually) etc.

Out of curiosity, is it a DJ issue or Newcastle airport issue that have grounded your flight? Found DJ pretty good on that route compared to J* but have had quite a few issues with the airport, the RAAF, and their operations closing the airport at times.

777.

DJ said that the weather was the issue and the airport was "Closed"

They didn't elaborate.

Where in The Lounge were you sitting when you took that photo, munitalP?

standing at the entrance looking in, far left on the raised platform area. A lot of little round tables and bar chairs up there.

Beers on offer in each Lounge (I have yet to go to the Lounge at Perth or Canberra) are:

Crown
Pure Blonde
Natural Blonde
Cascade Green
Cascade Light

Ummmm, I can;t think of the others. There are one or two more. Fosters has been there recently. They are all CUB beers.
I'm not a fan of the CUB range at all.
During the World Cup they had heaps, like Stella, 1664, Heinekin etc but that was a promo only.

Seen a lot of Fat Yak there on recent visits as well.

I haven't looked back since moving onto the Blondes. Believe it or not, they've actually worked (which is probably a sign that I drink too much :-|)
