Flew SYD to CHC last night 7.20pm out of Sydney with mrs cjemnmac

Aircraft was 737 and had at the absolute max about 60 pax.

I was on saver lite fare so no food included, was happy just to purchase.

The food offering was simply pathetic and went like this :

1. Can we please have coffee and a piece of banana bread...No sorry we have no banana bread
2. Ok, just some cheese and crackers then please....No Sorry we have no cheese and crackers on board. Catering has let us down
3. Oh that's a shame, I will have a vege pie and my wife would like a wrap...No sorry we have neither of these left. We were only given a few and the other passengers have already purchase the ones we had ( We were in row 13 )
4. Wife says don't worry then, I ask for a beef pie.. Yes sir we have the last one here you can have. Oh great can I have some sauce please...No sorry we have no sauce on board.

Really disappointing...

Then after the attached passenger, starting in about row 10 had moved 4 times, left side to right side to row 11 and to row 12..( like a child on sugar ) this will just about do it for me. Laying across 3 seats with no shoes or socks

The catering issue is embarrassing for VA... I would consider sending a complaint.

The tootsies display can happen on any airline.

Well you will fly Virgin!
My parents just returned from Hong Kong, they flew on QF97/98 out of BNE, on QF97 the food ran out before they got to their seat. So they didn't get anything for the entire flight and the flight attendant told them they should pre order their food online.... Um, what? You only pre order if you have special dietary needs.

I'm flying MEL-CHC in about a week.... I will make sure to eat properly in the lounge lol...

Pretty pathetic that they couldn't manage some decent catering at all...

QF allows pre-ordering for all classes of service now.

We shall see how that works - I can foresee a zillion pax complaining that whatever they ordered was not there.

As for the OP's complaint, I hear you. Pathetic. But I must say I have suffered that on quite a few airlines, everyone has supplier problems from time to time. But if that is the norm for Virgin, shame on them.

Not that I have any plans to ever fly them :)

Fair enough, but why should they have to pre order anyway? There should be enough catering on board to at least feed everyone even if they don't get their preferred meal. I thought that was pretty pathetic considering it's a reasonably long sector.

reminds me of that BNE to DWN flight in J where this scrappy torn singlet and torn shorts guy had his dirty bare feet up on the bulkhead,,, left a dirt smear too... feral.

Why do airlines assume that people have time or even access to the internet when travelling just to get a meal, which is after all, part of the booking conditions contract and advertised as a point of difference?

If that happened to me, I would expect the cabin crew to proactively exhaust all other possibilities before saying, you will have to go without. Offer something from business, snacks, even some fruit from the breakfast menu.
