I am travelling with partner and 16 yo son to Honolulu in early October I understand (actually I know, I asked Qantas) that the aircraft is a domestic 767.
Do any members have any tips for this trip? Are there movies (shared I guess) Are iPads a good idea?
Should I just take a sleeping pill and try to pretend its not happening?
Any advice appreciated.

The QF 767's that fly SYD/HNL/SYD are an international configuration but they are also used to fly domestically.

If you are travelling in economy you wouldn't really notice the difference except there is no seat 23F so 24F is a good seat for extra leg room but you'd probably need to have a reasonable frequent flyer status to grab that one.

It's mainly in J where you notice the difference with the 1 x 2 x 2 configuration & the Dreamtime seats vs Millenium seats which you would get on the domestic configured 767's.

It's a good idea to take an ipad as it helps the time pass whether you're an adult, teen or child.

I haven't flown SYD/HNL which is an overnight flight however have done HNL/SYD twice on a JASA each time which I like because it's a day flight so you arrive back in Oz early evening which makes it easy to get back in sync with the local timezone.

If it's 2200 in HNL it's 1800 in SYD the following day so you're body clock is already acclimatised. Never had jetlag in that direction & you wake up the next morning good to go.

Be prepared & take entertainment for yourselves. In economy, it'll be mainscreen movies, and it may also be mainscreen movies in Business! QF are rolling out iPads for entertainment on all 767s, but I'm not sure when that is happening in relation to the timing of your trip.

A sleeping pill might be a good idea. You will probably arrive at your HNL hotel (presuming you're not off to another island) by 10am, and not be able to check in early, so you'llwant to have enough energy to wander or have a swim.

Though the two times we've done this flight, we've had a ~2hr nap once we checked in at 2pm, and it hasn't hindered our jet lag. It can be hard to get more than 4hrs sleep on the flight.

I agree. Given that the flight time close to 10hours, departing at say 8pm local time and arriving say 830am over there, I would recommended eating dinner at the airport and the moment you get on board to try and sleep as much as possible. Getting a good 7-8hrs will definitely help (easier said than done when sitting upright) however when arriving, its just morning in Hawaii so timing wise it can't be any more better.
