I'm having trouble deciding which route to book between Sydney and Washington DC next month and would be grateful for any comments.

I'm a Gold FF and want to travel in a premium economy seat (I realise US domestic connections will be in economy).

There's very little price difference between the A380 (SYD-LAX) and the 747 (SYD-DFW).

So now it comes down to which is the better PE seat, because as I understand it, the A380 PE seats are dedicated PE seats whilst the PE seats on the 747 are old business class seats. Is this true, and in your opinion, which is comfier?

Also, it seems that if i have Gold FF status, I can book an economy seat on the SYD-DFW route but be given an automatic upgrade to a PE seat. Is this so? I have checked Expert Flyer and the PE cabin on the date I want to travel has only 13 PE seat allocated. The rest are blocked or vacant. So should I book an economy seat rather than the premium economy and rely on the automatic upgrade?

Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm dreading making a wrong choice, especially for the looooong SYD-DFW flight.

the A380 and 747 have the same PE product. You can be fortunate to get PE service with a Skybed on some flights.

Hokay, thanks.

In the end I just couldn't come at the SYD-DFW flight time.

So I purchased the SYD-LAX on the A380. I was assigned 34A there and back so I'm pretty happy with that :)

I'm flying SDY-DFW late Feb in PE, I'm also SG.
Orginally I was flying on a 4 class 747, therfore I ended up with a skybed in row 30.
Recently noticed that this flight is now using the 3 class 747, so ended up in a standard PE seat.
