Hi All,

This is rather optimistic "normal times" question, assuming when the trip takes place that covid is not mashing the hell out of everything.

Looking at the SYD - DXB flight on EK, leaves SYD at 06:00. Problem being I live in CBR. I usually go for a month or so when I travel so not really wanting to use long term parking.

So few questions:
- I cant stay in SYD airport overnight right?
- travel day before and get a hotel seems like a waste if i'm getting up and leaving hotel at 2am/3am
- what time do the lounges 'usually' open?
- trains / planes / bus's seem to only get to SYD at 9pm at latest.

Anyone figured out something that i'm not seeing to address this sensibly?

Thanks.

Not sure there is much options save the help of a Sydney based friend eg to park a car etc

QF lounges will probably be available for EK (not aware of any timeline for EK to open another lounge option) but based on QF first flight. Right now that means only when QF flies to India.

Have you considered same day transit via Melbourne/Sydney? I thought EK also have flights in the evening from Oz arriving Dubai before 6am.

Personally I’d get a hotel nearby and get a taxi/Uber over in the morning
Emirates lounge closed currently and you haven’t said if it’s on QF codeshare or not. If so the QF F lounge opens at 0630 unless the India flight is on in which it opens at 0430. The QF J lounge shut currently but believe it will open at 0500 when it is in service again

looking either late 2022 or early 2023 so i'm hoping all lounges will be back to normal by then.

I just hate the idea of paying syd prices for a hotel, checking in around 8pm and checking out around 3am

That’s strange, so no EK407 (Mel) or Ek413 (Syd)? I assume QF8***

Edit to add: EK421 (Perth).

Book a night at Rydges. 5 minutes from shower to check-in.

or at least not for points at this stage, but i hope the lay of the land might well change soon, fingers crossed :)

Ah ok. Hope you score those reward seats. EK (QF codeshare) evening from Sydney, Melbourne and also Perth might be the best options. But there might be availability through other Aussie capitals.

There are now plenty of hotels around Sydney Airport. Even if not ideal given you'd be checking out around 3am, the prices for some of the hotels in Mascot aren't too bad IMHO.

I have taken the 0600 EK once and I live in Sydney! 0300 wake up for 0345 chauffeur pick up! Would avoid if possible. At least we got to Lisbon in one calender day. 😀

Waking up at 2/3 am and being in my local bar in the uk that evening doesnt sound bad!

flying CBR to SYD the night before I could check luggage all the way through to UK and just hand luggage to the Rydges for the evening / night ?

On Emirates site you can buy for cash tickets that leave SYD at either 06:00 or 21:45 ... when browsing for points its as if that 21:45 flight doesnt exist on any date I have tried, which is ... extensive.

I think part of the problem seems to be no availability for the return leg J - well I couldn't see any when searching a roundtrip itinerary.

The latest J CBR-DXB I see is via PER (131k plus taxes) on 21/11.
The latest J CBR-DXB via BNE (137k plus taxes) is 29/10.

Not sure if those dates suit you.

I just searched the book flights page (ie not multi city) CBR-DXB 16 November Business one way (tick the use points box and the flexible with dates box) - used a Bronze family account just to see the minimal availability off the cough QF website.

Multicity search I could see some flights for return leg (eg return to Sydney or Melbourne around 1 December) - but could not proceed past the search page. You might have to do a separate search for the return leg. Or pay an economy and hope you get an points upgrade - or get a reward economy seat....

Doing a quick one-way DXB-CBR I see J availability on 1/12 via MEL 137k plus taxes - IIRC and given I see nothing from 2/12 availability might be a bit limited because using the bronze family account
