SYDNEY-NEW YORK November

I am looking to book a flight from Sydney to New York departing somewhere around the 18th-23rd of November (pretty flexible) and returning around the same time in February.

I've done my own searches and the best I could come up with was 1492 with Fiji Air and Virgin America (not the ideal airline but my main concern is cheapness!). I am going to over to do a unpaid internship so I would really like to save as much money as possible on flights. Willing to fly any airline or route. Any suggestions on how I could get the best deal possible would be greatly appreciated

That's a very good price for fairly decent airlines.
