I just saw this deal on FT and thought I'd share here too.

UA SYD-SFO-EWR-SFO-SYD: $1168.

It appears to be there for quite a lot of dates in 2010. I plugged some Feb/Mar dates and there is heaps of availability.

Edit: from fare rules: PERMITTED 17JAN 10 THROUGH 31MAR 10 ON THE OUTBOUND TRANSPACIFIC SECTOR.

been at this level for months. i did mel-lax-jfk-lax-mel for $1190 just this week

Yep, Delta have exactly the same deal. Not sure who initiated and who matched though.

I'm not Daz, but they're the poorest choice of the 4. They only have communal monitors in Economy for inflight entertainment, and nothing else is a standout. The one upside is they have a good network over there so many places you're going you'll probably be able to get a better deal with their specials from here (if it's straight through).

I expected the worst but to be honest they were fine. Both flights are overnight across the pacific, so you will probably want to try to sleep for the majority of the time.... so in that way the lack of personal AVOD is not so bad. The movie selection was quite good, they show 4 movies each way plus documentaries and tv shows. the overhead screens are LCD's and very clear to watch.

Food was a bit less on the tray than say SQ, or TG but it was enough. Drinks including alcohol were of quite a good selection and all inclusive on the trans-pac sectors unlike domestic USA. My flights were on schedule and very easy to connect anywhere in the USA. They also give FF miles on every star alliance program even at those bargain basement fares so for me that is a major factor!

The cabin crew are quite elderly of course as you expect, from this airline and particularly this route (it is highly sought after so attracts the senior ones) but I found them quite friendly during service, and also they answered the call bells quickly.

Will this deal allow for multi destination?
My daughter wants to attend a conference in Las Vegas and then 1 week in NY.
Sydney-Los Angeles-Las Vegas(7 days)-New York (7 days)-Sydney

I tried to check online but did not get a result.

Buy the ticket openjaw return SYD-LAS // JFK-SYD then you will have to buy a LAS-NYC fare.

If you consider the age of the FA's on DJ, then also consider that the 'girls' on UA international flights have many times more experience. I think that is a better way of putting it than saying they are very mature people, but have flown UA twice in the past six years (Once F and once Y+ - row 30) and the FA's were quite very good. (and able to get their wheelchairs down the aisle without too much problem) ;)

I recently bought a ticket on UA for December, SYD-LAX-DEN-EWR-ORD-LAX-SFO-SYD, for AUD 1123 (L class fare), with a stopover in LAX on the way back. I've already upgraded LAX-DEN and EWR-ORD to F, and should have a good chance for upgrades on the other domestic sectors.

For a visit to LAS, the most cost-effective option would be to have a free stopover at LAX, and take the cheapest round-trip fares LAX-LAS-LAX, typically about USD 120 all-in (not necessarily on UA).
