I've been following a Facebook group full of Brits trying to navigate their way around flight cancellations and find a way home.

It has come up a few times this week that when taking a Qantas domestic connection to an international flight at Sydney (BA or QR) that passengers have been told they must collect and recheck their bags due to lack of baggage handlers. Quite often these connections are also within just a few minutes of the minimum connecting time.

To be clear, these are itineraries booked on a single ticket.

Can anyone confirm if this is 'a thing'? I can't find any guidelines from QF anywhere.

Yes. This is correct effective 1st April.

QF has suspended their transfer facility between domestic and international at SYD. This is for both the transfer bus from gate 15 <-> domestic transfer facility over at international as well as any baggage.

Passengers are required to collect their bag(s) at domestic baggage claim and take them over to international on their own. This doesn't matter whether it is the same ticket or not, or on the same PNR or not.

You can take the Tbus or the train between domestic and international.

Thanks @madrooster .

Is this documented anywhere?

Pretty tough for those people that have booked a 2 hour connection.

It's not publicly documented. I don't believe they've done this at BNE or MEL. That said BNE has like 2-3 international flights a day at best.
