Hi All,

I am really thinking of looking elsewhere to put my business. QFF and being a member of QC is getting eroded all the time IMHO.

Just arrive of two business flights and next flight is to Newcastle with Aeropelican, get to the club, and treated like a member of the naz_ party or something. I was told sorry, you cant have access. I am 10 SC from being WP and have spent over 25k in flights this year. Yet it means nothing.

I have a QF boarding pass, I earn FF points on flight, but still no go.

Qantas are falling further and further behind..........................

If I understand the lounge access rules properly I think it's correct that you were denied access.

I would say that since you are only 10 status credits short of platinum it is a shame that the staff at the front desk weren't able to make a discretionary decision to let you in (arrivals access).

Lack of leniency where there is a small number of status credits required for the next membership tier; this is one of the only few things Qantas does with consistency.

Are you booked on a QF flight number?

[SUP]#[/SUP] Next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld Airline Members operated and marketed flight.
Note: a oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.
[SUP]+[/SUP] Jetstar Airlines refers to Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Aisa (3K) and Valuair (VF).

Yes they are correct following the rules. However as you said, I am only 10 SC from WP and have several flights booked. You think they could look at it and say, ok.

I also think its a little false advertising that I have a QF boarding pass and Aeropelican advertise you earn QFF points. For naive people like me, I would think it give me lounge access.

I should've flown Business with Virgin from Perth, I would probably have lounge access before travelling to Newcastle.

I get the impression, rightly or wrongly, that QF staff are only able to enforce the rules, whereas VA/DJ staff seem to be empowered to look for opportunities to gain customer loyalty by using flexibility. It seems to me that in this is a good of example of anytime access being the right thing for QF to be offering and indeed an opportunity for QF to make a soon to be WP feel pretty good about the QF experience.

I know the OP is irritated by T2 QF QP front desk staff but they can show discretion as I have found out. Last month, I arrived as a QF WP with 3 guests, and politely asked whether I could bring in an extra guest, and was told "no problem" with a smile....the lounge was absolutely packed and there was not a single empty seat to be found! They were certainly well within their rights to turn my request down on the basis that the lounge was full but didn't...

If you were VA status matched to Gold, you could use their ANYTIME lounge access. Maybe do it NOW while the offer is still open?

Cat with the pigeons - how do the lounge dragons see that the OP is 10sc away from WP status? they have no access to your account other than FF points balance when applying for ODU.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Or send them a screenshot of your account summary showing just how little short you are of WP, and hopefully they’ll bump you straight to Platinum.

Couldn't have put it better really. A lounge dragon (or really - any employee) has the power to make or break a customer/business relationship. Presumably you told the lounge dragon of your predicament but from the sounds of she chose not to offer flexibility on this occasion.

Shame really, because it doesn't seem like Qantas can afford to lose any more patronage!

Suggest you walk to the VA lounge and ask to be status matched to VA Platinum, while telling them this tale, so they get a good laugh. Oh btw you will be able to use the VA lounge as well. Even use their internet screens to log into your QF account and show them how close you are to WP.

If you could get the 10 SC by Friday, send a screen shot of your QF account showing Plat status to Velocity (before midnight this Friday), you could be status matched to Velocity Platinum and have anytime access to a Virgin lounge for 2 years:idea:

He is no longer browsing this thread. Lets trust his next stop is a VA lounge.

Maybe he’ll show the angels in the Virgin Australia lounge this thread ;)

That would be good. and then show the angels his QF account using their internet screens so he can then get status matched to VA WP. All good.

I did try to get access to the Mel F Lounge when I was 7 SCs short of WP. No go and yes I did call up my QF account and shown them I had more flights booked that would take me into WP. Sorry Mr. Watson but please come back when you have flown your next sector. Was a bit upset. Gotta say the F lounge girl did remember me on my next and first F lounge visit.

You're not a WP until you're an WP....thats why they call it WP :mrgreen::mrgreen:

If you had just achieved WP status but hadn't received the card and had been refused service then you would have a legitimate issue.

The old girl (QEII) does not send out those cards when you check out at 99 + some.....you have to be 100.

Think you're P***ed off how do you think Bradman felt when he fell short of the best status of them all :!:

As a WP and LTG I think I might be able to add a comment or two.

Queen Elizabeth II, I believe that is how her majesty should be referred to, is not chasing the loyalty and business of the 99 year old members of the UK population.

Sir Donald Bradman, I believe that is how he should be referred to, was a sportsmen who played, more or less, for the love of the game. (It certainly wasn't the money - they were paid next to nothing.) He expressed no disappointment at not averaging 100 - that is one of the reasons he was the best batsman the world has seen.

VA/DJ seems prepared to give a little leeway to foster loyalty, whereas QF seems hell bent on sticking to the rules. My first hand experience of this was with the new PG level. Despite surpassing the 2100 SC's I needed when I started my "QF year", and having more than 500SC's of travel booked the QF customer service staff stuck to their newly modified rules. All it actually achieved was to lose QF $4k of business.
