Recently took family to Europe for holiday and business.
Flew Cathay Pacific business class to Hong Kong, absolutely great.
Flew Lufthansa business class to Frankfurt, also absolutely great.
Lufthansa Frankfurt to Shanghai, same as above.
Qantas Shanghai to Sydney. NOT so good. Departed SHA 20:05 (23:05) Sydney time, and were served meal 2 1/2 hours later (1.30 a.m. Sydney time). By the time that was finished and cleaned up, it was 3.00 a.m. Sydney time Cabin crew were more interested in standing around in Galley talking than serving meals. Meals were brought out all over the place and served one at a time.
Pax in front of me was already served dessert while I still waited for main course.
Breakfast was supposed to be served 2 1/2 hours before landing (was announced), which would have made it 8.00 a.m. Sydney time, but wasn't served until 9.00 am, landed at 10.00 a.m.
NOT happy QF.

Similar experience my two daughters recently had flying business with ranking their experience in order Virgin, Cathay, Qantas then Delta. Flying separately, they both ranked Virgin slightly ahead of even Cathay, though the single seating, direct aisle access was a big plus with daylight to third and Delta still in the blocks, fourth.

So would you have been happy if breakfast had been announced for 9am & was served at 9am? I am just wondering if it made a major difference? Were you also in J on QF?

The PVG-SYD experience is an unusual one. The service is a bit hit and miss from my experience. I have to say it is the worst, for service, QF route I fly. It's not always bad, but I can't say I have ever experienced great service on it.

I find the A330 crews to be a little sub-par sometimes (I think they're "domestic" crews). The A380 FAs are usually great.

That said, I had a really good PEK-SYD in J once. BKK-SYD last week was only average though.

That was not the problem.(the announcement). The problem was that 3 hours before we landed I observed movement in the galley. ONE attendant was preparing breakfasts and the other 3 were just standing there talking. Then eventually, breakfast was brought out, one at a time, with quite a while in between. The last person to be served was 40 minutes before landing. And yes, it was business class also.

Have you complained to Qantas - to be sure 150 minutes into such a flight is a ridiculous wait to be served supper - in economy even, let alone Business.

I mentioned this to my travel agent and he said that QF crews lately don't seem to care as they are concerned that they may not have a job next week, so why bother?

That is funny - as there have been comments to the exact opposite on here how the service has picked up as of late...

That's worrying. I'm flying SYD-PVG for the first time on QF in 2 weeks (also my first flight as a WP, and F lounge visit too), so am a little worried now!
