I'll be having an opportunity for a leisurely trip to Hobart for a couple fo nights and was looking at suitable combinations for a SC run whilst minimising the cost of course.

SYD>HOB, HOB>SYD on Flexi Saver would earn 60SC's and cost about $800 ($13/SC)
SYD>MEL>HOB, HOB>MEL>SYD on Flexi saver would earn 80SC's and cost $868 ($11/SC)
SYD>MEL>HOB, HOB>(JQ)MEL>SYD on Red E Deals would earn 30SCs and cost $473 ($16/SC)

Or the more convoluted

SYD>BRS Red E Deal $115, BRS>HOB Jet Flex $351, HOB>SYD Jet Flex $301, Total $767 for 70SC's ($11/SC)

So any comments or suggestions? I'm thinking the Brisbane option doesn't look too bad, I have 1 paltry Upgrade Credit that must be used by 31JAN07 and the SYD>BRS leg might be an opportunity to get rid of it!

It depends how desperate you are for the status credits. It it was my money, I would be taking the cheapest option and save the $300 for spending at the destination.

of course there are other transport options so long as you are available for departure on Boxing Day and don't suffer too badly from sea sickness ;) .

LOL..Bring your own winch.

Its part of a longer plan. I need to get 200SC's by 31st December to get to QF Gold. I have a Perth trip so there's 80, then one way to HKG, which knowing my luck with the company will be discount economy, so only 30 SCs there. So if I can get 60SC's out of a trip to Hobart, then a quick jaunt from HKG to BKK should sort me out for the balance and then I'll have Gold next year for my return trips from HKG.

Better value doing this return on a JetFlex fare $600 for the same 60 SC's. ($10/SC)

A flight to HKG in paid economy will almost certainly be classed as discount economy since only full Y earns full SCs internationally (+ NZ domestic  ) and full Y is usually more expensive than discounted business.

Why don't you take a LA special business fare SYD-AKL-SYD, earning 160 SCs? Then you will be gold for your trip to HKG (= more bonus points for the longhaul flight). AKL a lot warmer than HBA too, not to mention very generous duty free.

BTW some airport code corrections (I assume)

HBA = Hobart. HOB = Hobbs, NM, USA
BNE = Brisbane. BRS = Bristol, UK
