I am QF SG, and at T-80 this is what is available for selection:

My Partner is QF WP, and at T-80 this is what is available for selection (ie. nothing):

We are on the same flight on two different bookings. Mine is a paid flight (although only a red e-deal), partner is on a Classic award. Does this affect seat selection?

We are seated together (already made sure of that by allocating based on my SG status originally) but seems strange that a WP gets worse seating availability at T-80 than SG. Is this because it is a Classic Award?

At T-80, "Theoretical Seats" becomes active and seating availability is relative to one's PCV.

There were reports in the early stages that WP on award were getting shafted on this but I believed it had been fixed.

FWIW, E/F shows me:

Thanks Serfty

Looks like it might not be fixed properly after all! (BTW, the image from E/F didn't appear - not sure if the image upload failed?)

(On a side note, I did have a comment from a check in staff member in Brisbane last year when we asked for an exit row that "they are held for people on paid tickets" as we were on a classic award once again and she also said that exits are allocated by status - that was news to me! ... the QP happily allocated us the exit though!)

FWIW, a WP flying Qantas domestically, upon booking, can call Qantas Premium and politely ask for a "request" be made to "Seating" for exit row pre-allocation. Such requests are normally granted.

With this particular flight I will actually hit WP ... a couple of years ago a QFF Call Centre person advised me that once you are WP they can do a "physical assessment" and then put a permanent exit row allocation in your profile (particularly if you are tall like I am) ... not sure if they still do this though?

Back in the old days my Dad had a permanent exit row selection in his profile as a QP Lifetime member, but that is well and truely gone now!

FWIW, E/F shows me:

I'm confused as to why EF shows much greater seating choice availability than the QF seatmap does. I'm getting similar results (with my WP status entered into EF) when I look at flights: that is, on QF the seats are occupied but on EF the seats are available. I don't understand why this is.

Theoretical seats ... Qantas.com only show the seats Altea is allowing for you in relation to your booking; this does not directly translate 1:1 with E/F seat maps which (I believe) are based simply on the status applicable to your QFF number.

I have the exact same thing. Say I'm on a 737 (my usual) I'm usually in rows 4-7. What I find is that there is a complete disconnect between QF and E/F for those rows, possibly any rows that I've selected a seat in. But then from row 8 rearwards the 2 seat maps match.

I asked expert flyer about this and they advised that they are returning the data correctly (and that makes sense as most of the aircraft matches) and suggested I call QF and ask why the seats available to my TA don't match the QF seat availability. I haven't bothered as I mainly fly short hop domestic. Not a good look being concerned about seats on a 2 hour flight enough to actually ring qantas. ;)

Ahh, that sounds reasonable. Thanks.
