Ta-Q-Bin (TQB)
The Japanese term for luggage delivery, used and trusted by Japanese. Extremely reliable and very cost effective.
TQB services are provided by several companies. Most of us will encounter them at the airports. The 2 main ones are JAL-ABC and Yamato Black cat
Depending on where you are sending it the luggage may be delivered same day or take longer. So some planning ahead will make this service very effective for Japan travel.
NRT-Madarao (north of Nagano) took "next day".
TQB Waybill
Below is a TQB Waybill that accompanies each piece of luggage. If you have several pieces, the airport TQB service can digitally insert the info into additional forms. However, you may have to fill these out separately if pickup is from a location remote to a TQB counter.
Costs:
Standard size is 160cm combined dimension.
Standard weight is 20kg
Anything over is a bit extra.
For the above destination, It cost me AUD$30 to send oversize 20kg skibags and AUD$30 to send standard size but 25kg luggage
Miss QS left her passport at hotel safe in Shinjuku and I organised the hotel to TQB it to me at Madarao for AUD$12. Arrived next calendar day.
Reasons to use TQB
A great way to get around Japan by rail. Alleviate the luggage hassles by sending it forward. Pack a day bag for you next destination until the luggage arrives.
TQB at airports
You will find the TQB counters after arrival landside within the terminal
TQB back to Airports/ or another location
Sending | Book online (Also has instructions in filling out waybill)
Or ask hotel concierge.
The TQB will reply in an email in English.
Any issues/questions just use that email thread and reply back
A TQB agent will drop off some TQB forms the day before pickup.
Japanese add "kuko" to the end of the airport name to signify its an airport
eg. Haneda airport = Hanedakuko, Narita airport = Naritakuko, Sydney airport = Sydneykuko.
City/town - has a "shi at the end. So city of Myoko is Myoko-shi
Prefecture has "ken" at the end. So prefecture of Niigata is Niigata-ken
Airport TQBs will store your luggage until you arrive. So you can send on your luggage days in advance.
In Japan, dates are year month day. So 2/15 in the picture below indicates prefered arrival at destination.
Airports do not need exact address and postcode. Just indicate which terminal - domestic or international
Remember to keep the top copy of the TQB Waybill as a receipt so you can collect at the other end
