I've just booked SYD-xBKK-CDG on TG in F via Avianca LifeMiles, departing mid-August.

The SYD-BKK leg is on a 747 - EF shows a ten-seat F cabin, which I believe is the latest (but still old) generation of F cabin with seats (as opposed to the brand-new suites) - is that correct? The BKK-CDG leg is on a 777, which I believe will be one of the planes TG have leased from Jet Airways with F suites - again, this the correct?

Plane confirmations aside, can anyone suggest the best seats in these two cabins for a solo traveller who likes a window view? I can't find much after a bit of Googling, and SeatGuru (etc) don't have much info either. At the moment I'm thinking simply 1A on both flights - any other feedback?

Thanks.

AVOID row one on the 777 - one or two of the seats have known IFE failures (inoperable) - so best to keep clear. Row 2A or K is better (and away from the galley). On the 747 - 1A or 1K is good.

Thanks for the info MEL_Traveller - sincerely appreciated.

I don't seem to be able to select my seats online via TG's website - a bit of Googling seems to suggest if they're not selected during booking (not possible via LifeMiles) then I need to call them. Can you confirm if that's correct?

yup - just call them. At the same time you reserve seats ask them 'do you have ticket numbers against this booking?' (Just to double confirm)

If row 2A/K are taken - I'd still avoid row 1A unless you can bear being the flight without IFE (which is entirely possible given you'll be tired anyway and the flight is only 11 hours)

Thanks - was definitely going to do that anyway, not sure I 100% trust LifeMiles yet :-)

IIRC, according to EF as of this morning the centre block of 4 seats on the 777 were all taken/blocked, but all four window seats were open, so I should be fine getting 2A or 2K.

One final question, if you don't mind: does TG F have a "pre-booked meals" service ala SQ Book the Cook? Or just a (hopefully good) "standard" selection onboard?

yes they have a book the cook service. Supposedly you can book that via their website - but i dun know if that works for award bookings. I dont usually bother to book the cook because they usually have so much anyway (its only ex BKK), and by the time you go to Europe all I want is a lite bite and then sleep. (It will be a full meal service ex BKK even at that time of night if you want it though including canapes, caviar, soup, salad, mains, cheese, fruit, dessert....)

Good airline TG. Underrated by many no doubt. I think the new 777 j cabins are great and service impeccable

Thanks for the extra piece of info MEL_Traveller - I'll try to track down a "book the cook" menu and see what I think, but won't stress about it based on your advice.

Despite the time of night, I think I'm going to have a hard time resisting! My only previous F experience was SYD-LAX on QF, during which I managed to eat in the F lounge before the flight, get through the full tasting menu on-board and drink close to my own body weight in champagne :-)

Glad to hear that, thanks Spruce... I've flown TG before but it's been quite a while.

FYI, in case someone else stumbles across this thread in the future, you can view the TG "book the cook" menu at THAI Services - In Flight : In-flight Cuisine and make your selections online using a link on that same page.

Rang TG this evening too, who confirmed everything looked kosher from their end WRT the booking - gave me the e-ticket number, which matched what I could already see via "Check Booking" on their website. Also put myself in 1A SYD-BKK and 2A BKK-CDG at the same time.

Thanks again for the help everyone.
