For more than a year I have been absorbing the information on this forum and I thought it was about time to say thanks.

Thanks AFF, for saving on my QP membership;

Thanks AFF, for showing me how to collect more QFF points by changing my bank and credit card and to collect credit card sign-up bonuses. I now pay anything I can with a CC.

Thanks AFF, for bringing to my attention AA business and first fares “with restrictions”. I have just made a booking for LAS-xDFW-YUL-xDFW-SFO for May at a very reasonable price, especially considering that the SCs involved will finally get me over the SG threshold and I will save a year’s worth of QP membership.

Thanks AFF, for opening my eyes to the OW J-class 35,000 miles award and the possibility to use it for multiple trips. Also for all the tips and tricks of booking such an award. Mrs jxv and I nearly have enough points and I will start booking flights for 2016 in a few months!

Thanks AFF, for pointing out the possibility of buying points for various FF schemes to obtain cheaper J fares. I have not done this yet, but as we get older we find flying in Y more and more of an ordeal and it is likely that we will use this method some time soon.

A few words about myself: I am based in Geelong and have been fully retired for only 18 months, but I semi-retired nearly 10 years ago. Before that I made the occasional trip to Europe to visit family and friends and the occasional international trip for work. In my semi-retired years I had regular work trips to Hawaii, Chile and Dubbo and we started travelling for leisure to many overseas destinations. Mrs jxv and I intend to keep that up as long as our health allows us.

Great post, welcome!!
Do you mind if I ask, what do you mean by AA First flights "with restrictions". I haven't picked up on that yet

Welcome to posting on AFF,

I am curious about the OW J-class 35,000 miles award you mention, are you referring to a OW rtw or circle award?

On the AA USA website (make sure to choose that and not the Australian site, by clicking on the little flag in the top right hand corner), you can select your fare preference as "Business & Higher with restrictions". These are restrictions on flexibility and routing. You will get a selection of possible flights (or flight combinations) from which to choose. Depending on departure and destination cities you can get some good deals.

The OW 35,000 miles award (costing 280k QFF points + taxes for J) can be used for any routing (not limited to RTW) with at least two OW carriers other than QF, as long as you stick to the maximum number of miles and the rules about stopovers and transits.
