Watching the "Late late show with Craig Ferguson" the other night and he asked a guest what is the "airport effect"?

The guest didn't answer the question. So it made me wonder what it is the "airport effect"?

According to the urban dictionary it is
The temporary increase in self importance that individuals assign to themselves while waiting at airports.

Mmmm quite a accurate description I think.

This term actually stems from a real report called the Behaviour Modelling for Security in Airports.

This is also amplified by the DYKWIA affect, usually associated with people having any kind of shiny plastic in their wallet that they think entitles them to be more VIP than the next VIP :)

The amount of times i've seen an AA EXP barking 'but I am EXP! I DESERVE MY UPGRADE!' and also had an EXP cough to me about 'these damn scrooges at AA are selling MY UPGRADE to any retard willing to pay $50 to TAKE MY SEAT when they check-in!'.

The joys of air travel:)

And if they knew just how many Australians use YUPPs and KUPPs to do status runs I wonder what their reaction would be?

Yep,

I was once told by a PS that he always get a spare seat next to him as he flies so often.

I couldn't mention my WP status but I did leave my board pass out so he could view it

Even better if you fly with them and you board first and get "Welcome back on board Mr Simo you're in XXB today on the right hand side" and then he gets "Hello sir, XXA for you" :)
