I have decided to try for the big three this year - QF Platinum, Partner Gold and Virgin Gold

FWIW - I have already achieved WP status since Nov 2008 and have 400 odd SC's to achieve Partner Gold.

I am presently DJ Silver and feel I could achieve Gold by year end without too much trouble...

Anyone else have DJ Gold, WP and PG?

Mr!

;)

so give us uneducated an indication as to the effort to obtain and rewards of DJ gold?

well, im not sure - I guess as far as rewards are concerned I get to use the lounge - which is an anti climax as WP gives me anytime access to the QP and there is (as far as I know) a QP at every airport that there is a Lounge, I get priority check in - again, anti climax as as a DJ silver, I get that anyway

I do know however that it takes approx $9K of travel to reach DJ Gold and with my job, that's a couple of months spend...

Last year I had all 3.
This year I have WP and DJ Gold but will miss PG by about 200SC's.

My biggest achievement this year was having elite status for oneworld (QF WP) and Star Alliance (NZ GE).

Probably don't and can't see myself flying enough for DJ Gold or justifying it. One could easily obtain it with one or two premium return flights from Australia to the US.

I've been informed about a Barbados run that nets a mass of QF SCs at a good rate; I could very much easily bag PG if I did it, but time and money are against me on that one. Moreover, I'm not sure who to give PG to (and don't say family - my parents and sister avoid QF as much as they can).

Good rates aside, how much do you have to pay to achieve that many SC's?

IMO anything up to $4 per 1 Qantas SC is an awesome figure. $4-$6 is a good figure, and anything above $6 is not worth chasing for ;) (but that's just my view)

So does that mean you are well on your way to requalify for Qantas Platinum.
Congrats on that.

Yes I have heard that Barbados story and have suggested they should have brought 2. ;)

For me I have never been above Qantas Silver and that was 7 years ago, what am I doing here.

Is that $4000 spent on flying, or just the going bribe rate to the membership manager? :p

I don't need bribes! My awesomely good looks do the trick

ETA: But no, $4000 spent on flying. Probably not right at the moment due to the exchange rate, but could still get pretty close to it. When I first qualified for WP a few years ago, I paid about $3700 AUD - but I miscalculated and was 80 SCs short, so I had to add an AKL-SYD-AKL hop on LA too.. :p

Unless you really love spending time in aircraft and airports is there a point to status runs to get status and then more status runs just to maintain status? I am wimp and I do not belong on a frequent flyer forum.

...and may not understand the concept of a double digit seat number :)
