The FR24 appreciation thread

This thing just rocketed low over my house.

Something just went over PER at high altitude and very fast in a NE-SW direction leaving a very clear contrail, but it doesn't show on FR24.

That's an unusual direction and it seemed faster than normal.

If it doesn't show on FR24, does that mean it's military?

That would be the most likely explanation John.

Those around Pearce will know if there are any jets in town. And I guess ATC as well.

We often have aircraft fly over our place which do not show on FR24.

We are approx. 70 km E of Amberley and assume they are flying to/from YAMB

interesting traffic next to Ukraine. USAF seem to be keeping aerial tankers on station. no visibility of what they are refuelling though.

FR24 stat they filter out military traffic.

AussieADSB seems to show more military traffic.

Although that is not consistent. ie today you can see Trooper 41 flying around from Oakey.

a bit slow posting this ...

On Anzac day a flight of 4 RAAF Pilatus PC21 in close formation zoomed past our place (at eye level where we are on hill), so had to check where they were going. Love the sound of the engines.

Clearly, after their Anzac ceremony duties they took the scenic route back to base at Sale.

Was sitting at Nicosia airport the other day and watching our aircraft during its inbound route on FR24. It executed a missed approach and flew directly over the terminal on the climb out. What I found interesting was the flight path for the first attempt to land versus the successful second approach and landing:

It was a longer setup for the second approach, possibly due to the arriving Pegasus aircraft.
Here’s a closer look at that arrival path:

The first attempt was the northerly of the two and doesn’t align to the successful landing on the actual runway! Interesting.
