It got scheduled BNE-SYD three times but only came down today. Finally left for CMB tonight, albeit nearly 3 hours late. Not a scheduled service so probably nearly empty. Wonder why it did not fly straight to Doha?
The conquest has been doing navaid checks for years, and navaids are not always at airportsThe low passes over RWY19L and 19R makes me think it was some sort of calibration flight.
But that doesn’t explain being below 200 feet over suburban areas nowhere near the airfield.
Normal flight is around 1h 40m - this one just scraped under 3 hours!QF2017 SYD-BHQ not going as planned.View attachment 421089
I have no idea what the actual issue was, but...if you have a gear issue, you don't cycle it. So, a dirty diversion to Sydney is almost certainly not possible.Overflew the RWY twice. Makes me wonder if it was a gear issue. But if so, you think they're return to SYD where there's more comprehensive emergency services.
What do you mean by “cycle it”? Try to get it up and back down again?I have no idea what the actual issue was, but...if you have a gear issue, you don't cycle it. So, a dirty diversion to Sydney is almost certainly not possible.
Yes.What do you mean by “cycle it”? Try to get it up and back down again?
Probably double the drag....What’s the limitation on returning to SYD? Drag and therefore extra fuel burn?
Well, I certainly wouldn't. The aircraft tells me all I need to know.Is overflying the runway twice something you’d expect for a gear issue - asking someone on the ground to take a look?
Oh, a random person. Which is why it's a waste of time.Who would even do this at a remote port like BHQ? The council employed aerodrome manager perhaps?
