I’m on a plane at least once a day. You have to talk to people – they know more about things than you do ( his words...not mine )

WOW...Obviously doesn't need the points or SC's. Most of would kill for what he could earn

Being on a plane every day doesn't mean he actually goes anywhere. He could just pop in during the turn around and chat to the crew.

It's still a good thing either way.

I don't think he'd earn a single point or SC as he's staff..

But ladies and gentlemen, I think weve found out why VA gets priority boarding correct.

I'd be pretty happy if I was a VA/DJ shareholder with his approach. From my dealings with DJ/VA staff I can see that the vision is communicated through the business. I have seen the energy and the desire to do better at a few different levels.

I have flown QF for 13 years now and not once met a lounge manager. I have flown DJ/VA for just over a year and met two, both of whom wanted to hear what could be done better. There are plenty of things that need improving but at least there seems to be a desire to make the improvements.

I know JB was VERY popular with QF staff and is greatly missed.

I am sure VA staff like the direction their airline is going compared to QF staff

I actually bumped into JB on a filght a few months back. I was flying BNE to SYD in the early evening. There were no J pax on board, I was in 3C (so first out the front door) and he was riding in the jump seat with the pilots - so had a good chat with him about why I'd chosen DJ over QF for that flight (and others) - he appeared genuinely interested in what I had to say, and was generally a pleasure to talk to. I guess that attitude filters down through the staff - because it is generally true of them all.

Some QF staff have a negative outlook, most I have spoken to are quite positive about the changes that are slowly occurring. I think most of the intelligent ones realise the problems QF has as a legacy carrier compared to the new-age Virgin, and the challenges that come about transforming the company to a new world carrier.

Hopefully things like the move back into OOL will encourage more staff to be upbeat at QF, expansion and growth keep people upbeat, not cutbacks and closures.

Nice article. JB is one person I'd like to meet at some stage. He seems like a very nice, down to earth guy that is a very capable leader and effective manager. I have a lot of respect for CEOs and MDs that take a person at face value; regardless of who they are, be it higher or lower in status (the influential kind, not FF ;))

I like the referenced to a CEO needing to be able to clearly communicate a vision and have a team of leaders who do the same to all levels of employees. Plus being consistent and not changing strategy every few months.

It's so farcical that so many corporate execs these days have poor people skills. Refreshing and Inspiring!
