So I am currently sat here in the Hilton in Jeddah at 09:10AM. I have a 12:30 flight to DXB-HKG-SYD so have arranged a cab for 10:00. At 09:30 I will be calling for my bags to be taken down to the lobby. At 09:45 I will proceed to the lobby for check out.

My bags are pretty much packed - just need to stow the laptop and leads, collect the iPad and get ready to go.

That will leave me a 20 minute or so window with no bags or stuff and I was wondering what other people do in that last 20 min period before the rush to check out, check in and board begins? Apart from posting threads on aff that is (-).

Search the room, then search the room again, and then search the room again. All in full knowledge that no matter how much I search the room furniture, bedside cabinets, desk, bed, and bathroom will have conspired to steal something from me!!!

Go to the hotel bar, knock back a Jameson straight and wash it down with a pint of Heineken!

It will make the check in and security at the airport feel like disney land!

Couldn't have put it any better!I am exactly the same. And 20 minutes after checkout on arrival at the airport I discover they have won again.

Sadly my programming and OCD means that I contiously check that the room is empty and I am OK to leave and then it is too late and I receive a call from reception that it is time to go.

And no I am not joking. I need to go through this every time. :( And there is no easy way out of it.

I always keep my bags with me, so have the iPad etc to keep me entertained.

I hate waiting for porters to take my luggage so rarely use them.

So once packed, I do a once around the room, check the safe and finish by checking that my important documents/items like passport, bp's, 'phone charger are in my luggage where I expect them to be.

Maybe once more around the room then to the exit, making sure I grab the flybuys card or similar that I have inserted into the keycard power switch if any.

Then I take what little luggage I gave and head to check-out.

It's better to be at reception ready to check out 10 minutes early than on time and be stymied by an unexpected crowd at the desk.

Any further time is spent patiently waiting for my booked shuttle or whatever.

Some of us get stuck in this endless loop....

Hmm. I wonder if you can buy bulk cheap plastic credit card shaped cards on eBay for this. :) Maybe AFF branded ones? :)

Twenty minutes? With nothing to do? Before checkout?
I wish!

Will never happen.

I will always have "just one more email/just one more phone call/just sort out the luggage a little more/just rinse and dry some item of clothing etc etc etc".

And then "wait patiently..."?
Ah. Maybe in the next lifetime....

Phew - I thought it was just me!

Don't use porters. Instead I look at this as a bit of forced exercise.

Third sweep around the room ..still forgetting the Power Adaptor too often.

I always use the card that I forget to hand back at the previous hotel in the keyboard power switch. Then it doesn't matter when I forget it.

Found a hotel where this didn't work. Key card had a chip rather than a stripe and power system needed the chip to make it work. Cunning!

Sent from my iPad using Aust Freq Fly app and carrier pigeons

For a long time I had withdrawal issues with any or all of the following, pool, shower or bed & would be late leaving every time. Since I've scaled the heights of OWE I seem to be able to be ready, packed & downstairs for the trip to the airport;)

i find any business works well. usually use something like loyalty card for the local nail bar or car wash, or Mr. Kln'S Sydney FC membership card from 2010. all work well

I only used the porters this time as I had the dive bag which was heavier than normal and didn't want to get sweaty before the 30 hour trip home...
