In my quest to understand  the options of inexpensively getting to the USA (and thus retaining "status" with AA) I occasionally search the AA website for alternatives to visit my family in Texas.
As it turns out AA have obtained a code share on the MH KUL-LHR A380 flights. Random dates looking at the medium term future found the following V class round trips on AA flight numbers (ie full mileage and 1.0 EQP per mile)
July ~ USD1800
Aug/Sep ~USD1400 with business at ~USD 7400
As I can use a number of LCCs to get to KUL or simply base my PER flights from SIN on QF, this does provide a somewhat inexpensive (if rather roundabout) means to getting to the USA. And at roughly 11300 EQM/EQP each way it goes a fair way to retaining lounge access.
Happy wandering
