In the last week I've received a few calls from PP staff getting me to sign up to a PP membership - deferred them to a time that I had time to listen the sales spiel. I'd previously looked at it on the web but not been enticed enough...

So today I indulged them and listened through it to see whether they'd give me something *special*.

I got offered:
- 2 for 1 certificate
- 2x 25% off best flexi cert
- upto 50% off dining

Then I asked "what else" and got the "let me check with my supervisor" response... waited 20 secs and she came back and offered "as a special":

- another 2 for 1 certificate

Then I asked "what else" and got the "let me check with my supervisor" response... waited 10 secs and she came back and offered "as a *special*":

- breakfast for 2
- $50 F&B credit

hmmmm..... I thought something was a bit fishy as it seemed to come too easily...And then I said "what else?". response was "nothing more"...

So I said "I'd think about it" and let her go - I checked on the web cos I couldn't recall the full detail from the public offer. And as you PP members are thinking - yep, all of this is the standard offer anyway!

So me thinks this is a bit disingenuous of PP.

Yep, everything listed there, including the "what else" stuff is standard pack. They also sometimes like to hook you in with "2 free nights a year", which actually translates into the 2-for-1 certificates (i.e. one night at Best Flexible Rate, the next night is free). What, you didn't really think they were just going to give you a voucher for 2 free nights with no strings attached, were you?

For a while (and I wonder if they still do), they were also offering, pretty much as a standard, $100 dining credit (redeemable with or without staying at the property).

I'm surprised you managed to wriggle out with "I'll think about it." Normally the call staff are a hell of a lot more pushy than that; you'd almost have to be quite confrontational or good with making up a SOS story to get out of those conversations.

In the end, if the PP program can really suit you, then it's a good program for purpose, though you could easily sign up for it yourself, because signing up via a phone agent brings very little if any additional reward.

If you have even a few stays at IC type properties it is easy to be ahead with PP.

I used a 25% off certificate at HI Melb airport last week, a BOGO at Alice Springs Crowne Plaza and used the discount dining at the CP also. This more than covered the annual fee. Many of the certificates are transferrable so can be swapped with other people to help you with expiry dates. Fifa and I have swapped certificates on a few occasions.

Yes, I cansee the potential value in PP. Just a bit miffed with the "wait there's more" sales approach only when pushed, only to find out that *anyone* can get it...

I has one guy tell me that as a favour he could arrange free enrollment in Priority Club as well! (I was already Platinum!)

Join online and use a fake phone number, I get around $6K of value out of it per year but I average 100 nights with IHG.

I had a missed call on mobile today which is from them.

In years gone by they have had very aggressive staff.

I had a call from Accor a month ago about their version of this and when I explained I wasn;t interested she was happy to let me go.

I have actually complained to IHG about the behaviour of the marketing company they use in Sydney and they have apologised to me but I don't think behaviour has changed. When you pay staff Commission based on numbers human nature takes over and they become aggressive.
