My delayed flight last night Adelaide to Sydney in Y.

The meals came out and the choice was an apple or sausages and mash. Well I like bangers and mash so all good.

But, no knife and fork they only had spoons to eat it with. It was kind of funny and the food and crew were fine.

PS Based on other threads do you reckon I'd be entitled to 2 first class tickets to London as compensation for this outrage.

Actually ... that looks better than I’d expect for a Y seat in a 1.5hr domestic flight! :)

What airline? Where were you sitting?
If at the back perhaps they ran out of the other options?
It's hard to compare standards without knowing the context.

I would totally expect something like this from BA who a few years ago when they did have free food and drink ran out of coke on the second row of economy. Or more likely just didn't want to go and get more.
Their standards have been dropping for years. I obviously understand the OP wasnt on BA and likely QF or VA. Just making a point

Given the reputation of that particular profession, did you explain to them that you were after Coca Cola, and not wanting to borrow a mirror & rolled-up $1000 bill?

It does look surprisingly good for domestic Y.

And wow! The return of metal cutlery! (just not the right sort)

Certainly one! Two might be pushing it a little.

Must have forgotten the cutlery packs as metal is normally J only....

To me it always looks like the first 2 cabin crew take the drink trolley and meals for row 4 and 5 only. The next 2 cabin crew come along with the meal trolley and start from row 6 backwards.

This could explain the limited choice of meal and no cutlery packs. Easier for them to get some metal cutlery from the business trolley as opposed to waiting on the second team to come up the aisle.

You'd think they would at least grab a knife and fork then rather than a spoon!

There was an announcement, no cutlery and I didn't hear any complaints from passengers.

As for the suggestion the cutlery and meals choice was exhausted after serving row 6, I wonder if row 28 had to eat their mash with fingers....

^ They should learn their lesson ... 100-odd sets of backup bamboo chopsticks wouldn’t even be noticeable in terms of storeage space!

Funny but also not surprising. Becoming more and more like a LCC - particularly when it comes to quality of catering and basic services.

So Qantas are really increasing their foray into Asia (or at least SE Asia). A spoon ? After living in Singapore for way too long, for anything other than steak, my go to knife is a spoon. Spoon in the right hand and if you have it, fork in the left. Use the spoon to cut and spoon up your food. Simple.

Most foods are better eaten with a spoon. I ask for one now by default in every restaurant.

Waiter: and how would Sir like to eat his t-bone steak?
kermatu: just a spoon thanks, good sir!

Just travel to Argentina and you'll be right............

Though T-bone is not their specialty cut....

Just wandering
Fred

I don't think standards are slipping. Delayed flights could mean a rushed preparation to depart. I see this regularly ex-BNE on Friday nights.
