Hi Ladies,

I am looking to compile a list of AFF's favourite hotels.
I know that this is a broad description and maybe this will be a futile exercise with too many variables in play.

However I am just looking for your standout hotels in certain cities, where you really look forward to returning. I am not looking for posts that include a hotel where you had a nice stay at.

Here are 5 examples:

Kuala Lumpur: Glen Marie Holiday Inn - Executive Club
Why: Magnificent high ceiling, non AC, fanned foyer. Olympic sized Swimming Pool, Rooms overlooking Fairway, Excellent Day Spa.

Kuwait: Crowne Plaza.
Why: The Amazing Aquatonic Pool. The superb Sakura Japanese restaurant

Stockholm: The Intercontinental Grand Hotel.
Why: The sheer beauty of the building, the decor, The large old worldly rooms, the Spa, the vista and Location.

Natadola, Fiji: Intercontinental InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa
Why: The Lagoon Suites. The private Cleopatra Baths. Setting Uber tranquil.

Mumbai: Le Royal Meridien
Why: French summer palace design, wonderful food, magnificent single malt selection, Winter Garden, exclusive hi-flyers lounge.

......I'd love to hear of gems elsewhere (particularly Beijing, Johannesburg, Auckland or Singapore)

Hong Kong: W Hong Kong
Why: Well-connected concierge service that lives up to the Whatever/Whenever motto, fab service, great DJs and coughtails, trendy G&A designed rooms

Istanbul: W Istanbul
Why: Great concierge, beautiful bathrooms, great Wednesday night parties

London: Sanderson
Why: Beautiful crowd, awesome concierge, so hip it hurts

Seoul: W Seoul
Why: Cute Austin Powers-style round beds, creative coughtails, best Living Rooms ever

Singapore: New Majestic
Why: Cutting edge design

Sensing lots of repetition there...:mrgreen: (Will edit with links to the various reviews I've written when I've got time)

Please keep this thread clean by only posting your favourite hotels based on your personal experiences per the OP's request. Other banter will be removed.

Hong Kong: The Peninsula
Why: Always had a good experience there, spacious suites, great views over Victoria Harbour. Love the showers with 10 jets.

Hawaii: Hapuna/Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
Why: After the disaster of the Hilton Waikoloa we found the Hapuna and Mauna Kea hotels an oasis compared to the Hilton. At least when we were there, the hotels allowed you to use each others facilities seamlessly.

Granada: Puerta de Las Granadas
Why: Located just below the Alhambra with great staff that booked everything for us before we arrived, and were very friendly. Rooftop patio was wonderful in the middle of the day too. Great location!

That’s all I have for the now, plus lately we’ve used apartments, and this is a "Hotel" thread.

Westin Innisbrook Tampa, the blocks of 6 rooms, 3 up and 3 down, scattered around three of the golf courses. Beautiful decorated, squirrels, huge bathroom, huge lounge...

Not to mention 2 resort courses and 2 rated courses on site!

Times and people change so my list of favourite hotels have changed over the years.some former favourites such as the Hilton KL are not on the list for future stays.
So for now-
Our Favourite hotel-SGS,Bangkok.Always upgraded.Always contacted by management to ensure we are satisfied.Great staff. And we love Thailand.
Special stay-Westin Palace Madrid.Upgraded to fantastic multi roomed suite with balcony overlooking the Parade for Spanish National day.
Special mention-Thargomindah Oasis motel-For a fantastic old Australian brand of hospitality.

Just some of my favourite hotels, which I would definitely go back to and encourage my family + friends to also stay there if they were visiting that area.

The Royal Hawaiian - Honolulu, Hawaii
On the sands of Waikiki Beach, its location cannot be beaten. Great service, newly renovated + good sized rooms, lush gardens and the historical elements is just perfect. And the hotel is coloured pink who wouldn't want to stay there!

The Atlantis Resort - Paradise Island, The Bahamas
Over the top themed resort in The Bahamas. Amazing water facilities and theme park. A great choice of accommodation + food choices suiting most budgets. Idyllic golden sand beaches and torquise warm water surrounding the entire resort.

Marina Bay Sands Casino & Resort - Singapore
I haven't stayed there yet but after visiting the rooftop garden, bar and spectacular infinity pool, that is enough points for me to put this is hotel at the top of my Singapore hotel list.

Q1 Resort and Spa - Gold Coast, Australia
Ok this is a serviced apartment but when I'm on the Gold Coast, I head straight there. Yes there a literally a zillion apartments nearby but this one is the tallest residential building in the southern hemisphere. And when you can have a 3 bedroom penthouse with as views as the eyes can see in every direction, then it's a definite winner for me.

Le Meridien Barcelona - Barcelona, Spain
It's unfair to list it here as I received an awesome upgrade to the Presidential Suite with its two outdoor balconies overlooking Las Ramblas and more importantly, overlooking the v nice Hotel 1898 next door & their rooftop pool, restaurant and bar. Great for people watching apparently ;)
But otherwise offered efficient and fun service, good restaurants and if you're in that part of the world for the first time, the location cannot be beaten.

Hotel 1898 in Barcelona is pretty special, great colonial style rooms, the above mentioned rooftop bar ( achingly cool) and pool, directly on La Ramblas and very handy for La Boqueria. Felicia and I loved it :)
Will have a think on others and post more later

Quebec City: Hotel Le Germain-Dominion
Why: Modern interiors, yet cosy & romantic. Absolute attention to detail. Perfect location. Amazing breakfast.

....anyone got anything for Beijing or Manila?

Beijing: The Kapok Hotel, near the Forbidden City, new and clean with great staff. Walking distance to the subway, lots of small eating places nearby.

The Manila Hotel near Rizal Park. Is bit old but has some great history. Perfectly clean. Slightly dodgy part of town near the coast. I visited there with friends who are locals as guides.

Try H2O (water symbol) for MNL. New and good by all accounts quite different but haven't stayed there. Some rooms underwater?

HotelH2o

I've stayed there, the hotel is very interesting. Very modern, compact and open rooms. Our room overlooked a theme park that everynight had a lazer show. It was amazing! A lazer show the size of a football stadium.

It's a open yet small room, the bathroom and shower have no privacy.

The hotel isnt' underwater. It's actuly in a shopping centre on the 2nd floor. The whole building is a doughnut and the middle of it is a giant fish tank, so the centre rooms have a window looking at the tank.

The hotel is so new they were still building it while I was there! There was more staff than guests when I stayed. About 80 percent capacity. Never touched a door while in MNL!

Had about three security checks between entering the building and getting into my room. Each one involved poking a drum stick into my bag, everytime I got checked I set off the metal detector and they just waved us through... was an interesting experience.

Would stay there again!
