The USA wants your Facebook usename, amongst other things?

Interesting but inevitable progression.

As per the article, the info fields would be optional. And they would indeed be a useful way of contacting many people.

I read this on a Cruise critic forum this morning and one cranky/silly/reactive guy had started the thread by saying goodbye to everyone and it would be his last post. Sigh.

Agree an inevitable progression and a good contact point for people (myself excluded) but unless your 90 with Alzheimer's and you DON'T put a social media username - what are you hiding...another reason to not let you in. Once its there its there for ever.
Facebook in particular has [positive] facial recognition, they will data match your profile photo to the entry photo. Data match "friends" and "people you might know" with watch lists. If you go near any camera close to government building or security area you will be matched and added to a profile for warnings. Its not big brother its what we do these days.

Its not what you are doing now but when you were aged 8 and accepted a "friend" post from someone at school who's uncle lives next door to to an Iranian mathematician who worked for their government's university you might just get excluded from entry even though you haven't seen them in 20 years. And you wont know why..

Lookout, it's a 1980's cartoon character out to get us all!!!!

Many a friend of mine have used cartoon characters or photos of cars / planes or other things which look nothing like themselves, good luck at matching John Smith with his Inspector Gadget profile pic.

It is Big Brother. All about control. No doubt about it.

Not long and they'll be installing cameras in your own home. For your own protection of course....

I really don't have a Stalkbook page. Will they believe me? Or have I just qualified for an extra cough probe? For my own safety of course!

No cough probes, but they will force you to sign up on the spot, and if you don't annoy everyone at least once every 30 minutes with a photo of your holiday, or a post about some annoying quiz which is honestly really really difficult but you somehow got 100% on, they will find you, and they will place you in a "re-education" center.

They will have fun with me. I have a Facebook page, but I don't login that often. I checked it last month to find a happy birthday message... from 2015.

It's been going on for ages.ASIO had a file on me back in the 60s.
Just a lot easier now.

Any of my approx 20 FB friends who are annoyed by my holiday snaps had better unfriend me.

Yes, my profile pic looks just like me :p

Hey, I'm just as guilty of this as anyone else.
I have a couple of times received the evil virtual glares, but that was more to do with yet another flight in J than anything else.
Although the most evil of glares happened when a friend of mine posted up that he would love to go to Vegas and 10 minutes later I was posting up a photo of me under the Vegas sign. He didn't realize where I was (and I didn't realize what he'd just posted) so it was a rather funny (for me, annoying for him) coincidence.

Ive had people post, "I thought you were there for work" when Ive been on a business trip because any down time is maximum tourist time in my book. Even a midday project break warrants a trip to Dairy Queen and some snaps.

Posted and deleted earlier today. But this is why some people have more than 1 Facebook account.

(Happy to to check my grammar on more then, versus greater than. Actually it probably has to be than)

Could not careless but some people who are not there for all good reasons could be a little worried
