In Northern Europe they call the stuff on the right Golden Asparagus (Asperges). Served in a white sauce they wait all year for it to be in season. Grown under a cover.Check out the size of that asparagus in Padua. One of the downsides of eating out when travelling is I don't get enough vegetables

I just love European white asparagus in a nice white sauce. The French and Spanish do it very well!In Northern Europe they call the stuff on the right Golden Asparagus (Asperges). Served in a white sauce they wait all year for it to be in season. Grown under a cover.
I had some, lovingly prepared too, and it was very nice. However next day I was crook and slept for following 2 days. Weeks later when I boarded the plane to come home, SQ served this up as a specialty as the plane was leaving Schiphol. With the smell wafting through the cabin I almost threw up. Can't stand the smell of it now. This was at the same time of all the deaths in Germany from eating contaminated vegetables. I've always wondered.I just love European white asparagus in a nice white sauce. The French and Spanish do it very well!
