The view from my "office"

We were going to do the festival last year but the only accommodation we could find was out of town and according to the locals, the festival is manic. The 'hop on hop off' bus is very appealing, you cover more wineries and don't have the hassel of driving.

Locals suggested coming another time and book a local wine tour if you want to avoid the crowds and stay in town. When driving, you have to be very careful about the number of tastings you do which rightly limits the number of wineries you visit and the tastings at each. We probs won't be back to Rutherglen anytime soon. We might head to Orange next, that's not a bad spot either.
I agree the June long weekend is manic where the theme seems to be, go in fancy dress and get drunk. The March long weekend is busy and focussed more on food and wine. We normally stay in Corowa and catch the first bus of the day which takes us into Rutherglen, and spend the day on the different bus loops, and then catch the last bus back to Corowa. They have buses for Albury, Wangaratta and Chiltern too.

If the wineries have a dinner or evening function on, they usually have a special bus for that too, that meanders around picking up people and dropping them home.

We have driven through Orange and liked what we saw, and plan to get back for one of their wine festivals.

@kookaburra75 Whereabouts do you stay in Corowa?
We've stayed at Motel Wingrove and the Statesman Motor Inn. Both are old fashioned motels, but clean and comfy. The bus to Rutherglen leaves from Lions Park, which is across the road from both those places. They're a short walk into town for supplies, pubs etc. Circa 1936 is a great place to eat too.

Always so caring and sharing. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Ok, it's called chuletón. Carved in front of you then you cook on a hot plate. Sooooo good. Very glad they took me in at 11.25pm just before the kitchen closed.

By 9am and all car parks and surrounding streets are full,
I am home under my rock waiting for the cricket to start now.

Update:
And sad to say, helicopters overhead and sirens have been going off all afternoon here.
So far, reports of an epileptic seizure, a heart attack, and jet ski into boat accident. 1 adult and 2 children airlifted to hospital 😒
(Surfer Flyfrequently's mate is a local copper)

And a drowning this morning on the other side at Gunnamatta.......
