The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

I felt so claustrophobic inside and it stank and it was really hot - the woman in front fainted and watching them drag her out put me off going right to the centre - magnificent city and country though - enduring memories of sipping gin and tonics (several) as the sun set when we were sailing down the Nile

At most of the places we have been to, we are the only ones there. Complete sites with no buses, no people (except the guards/guides)
Board our boat to sail down to Aswan in about 4 hours time. Will have my G&T then.
Seems like we have spent more money "tipping/bribing" the tomb guides who let us take photos inside using our phone camera. (normal cameras not allowed inside) and it's them that suggest it. Have only been to 1 place where the guide has not suggested we use our phones. (and of course that was the best tomb at Der El Medina)

But not every one. Where is it?

I didn't want to show my ignorance, so thanks for asking! ;)

I was thinking it looks a bit like a view of Caloundra from Golden Beach, but I certainly wouldn't put money on it!

Beautiful day in PQQ today. There is a walk you can do from the Lighthouse at the south end of town into Town Beach, that follows the coastline. Only around 12 k's, combination of walking across a few beaches and around a few cliff tops, well worth the walk and the view, except when you come across the occasional fat nudist .

Valley of the Kings.
Going to be a "bad tourist" here..... The Valley of the Kings only reminded me of Disneyland. All controlled, remade, gift stores, safety fences, no photos etc etc.
Give me crawling thru the dirt, up / down hand made ladders, thru dark tunnels, bats, torches any day of the week over today's "tourist" excursion.

re: The view from my "office"

Am currently in Washington DC and it reminds me of Canberra with the government and museum feel. Although the museum component is extraordinary and a few hours at Smithsonian Air and Space museum (city location) was well worth it.

However, for my photos I have decided to show The Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.

I can see why Americans are drawn to the Lincoln Memorial, it is quite impressive and having seen it numerous times on television and movies I am very glad to have finally seen it in person.

I went to the Washington Monument both during the day and sunset. At sunset a group of young people were singing the Star Spangled Banner a capella, it was quite moving on a warm autumn's evening surrounded by American flags fluttering gently in the breeze.

The photo of the monument is from just in front of the memorial showing its reflection in the Reflecting Pool.

I was so disappointed that the Pool was empty when I was there...

My favourite is the FDR memorial:

[h=1]“I have seen war. I have seen war on land and sea. I have seen blood running from the wounded. I have seen men coughing out their gassed lungs. I have seen the dead in the mud. I have seen cities destroyed. I have seen 200 limping, exhausted men come out of line—the survivors of a regiment of 1,000 that went forward 48 hours before. I have seen children starving. I have seen the agony of mothers and wives. I hate war.”[/h]

re: The view from my "office"

Was not quick enough coming into land in Sydney last night.

We came in turning left over North Sydney and flew parallel to the inner Harbour giving amazing views of the city (can honestly say I've never had that approach before) then turned right over the Heads and headed south before turning right to line up for landing.

But what I was not quick enough to get was the pair of whales below, breaching out of the water off of Maroubra.

Having just recently returned from there, love the pics. Our first trip to DC and absolutely loved it. Still so much more to see. The Air and Space was definitely a highlight.
We went to the Lincoln memorial at night a took this shot. Sorry for the poor image. Only had the smartphone on me.
